He will announce towards the end of Jan. The thing about Martin is that LSU is the most competition for him and he said that he is going where he thinks he can get the most immediate playing time. It seems that would be Tennessee.

McNeil is slow. I mean really slow. I'm a Jancek fan, but lining McNeil up on a WR is a mistake. Same goes for Coleman. If it were me, I'd start TKJR. I'd play Evan some too, especially on passing downs. In terms of Coleman, one more game. Guys a Vol, but his football IQ is terrible.
In terms of landing Martin, it's going to be a battle to the end for him. We need him badly. If he comes, I wouldn't be surprised to see E. Mos step into Coleman's role as the 3rd CB/starting NB. Gaulden and Foreman would be the backups to those three.
Assuming TN staff really wants him, since he likes UT and we have huge need there I'm suprised he hasn't publicly committed yet. Unless Butch spreading it out with the commitment times
Ryan Callahan on who could make early commitment to Tennessee...
Quote:
Martin, a former standout at Overton High School in Nashville, Tenn., who enrolled at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in January, was forced to cancel his scheduled visit to Tennessee on Tuesday because junior-college prospects arent allowed to take unofficial visits before completing their second semester at junior college. But the Vols remain the early favorite to land Martin after helping him get to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and putting together a plan that could allow him to transfer to a four-year school by next summer. Martin is hoping to make his decision sometime during the upcoming season, and seven of the eight early predictions on 247Sports Crystal Ball point to Tennessee as the team to beat.
bump
This is the most important commitment that we need for next year on defense. He makes an immediate impact.
What makes great defenses unique is the ability to make opponents one dimensional. Having all three of Sutton, Moseley and Martin in rotation at CB; Gaulden (Payne?) potentially at nickel; and TKjr and Evan Berry at safety relatively soon is how that gets done when you have a great pass rush from the front four. Need Martin.
Got a flood of Justin Martin information today so I will pass along what I know based on talking to Justin and his family today.
1. Justin Martin was silently committed to Tennessee for the past couple of months. Tennessee has been aware of Martin from his high school days and monitored his move to junior college very closely. While the Vols might have been his first official offer as a JUCO, he has essentially always had a standing offer assuming he completed his academic requirements. Martin is still on schedule to graduate in the spring and enroll at the summer at whichever school he selects.
2. Martin and his family reached out to Tennessee today to let them know that he was going to open up his recruitment and that Tennessee should no longer consider him a commit. With Martin set to take four more official visits (Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee and LSU) next month, he and his family wanted to make sure Tennessee had a back up plan in place in case he elects to go to one of those programs. Originally it looked like Ugo Amadi was a backup plan, but with him also sort of in limbo right now the move to inform Tennessee was a courtesy, according to those I've spoken with.
3. Martin is very high on LSU and they are the team to beat right now. Martin's direct quote is "LSU is my front runner, LSU is my leader" Last week Martin's was visited by Corey Raymond and John Chavis (Martin wasn't at the meeting because he was on an official visit to Oklahoma) and I'm told that the coaches helped smooth over any concerns his mother may have about him going that far from home. According to Martin, his main focus is going to the school that can best prepare him for the NFL so that will be his No. 1 factor in making a final decision.
4. Despite the visits to Georgia and Auburn, I would still consider this a two-school race between Tennessee and LSU. The Tigers will get the final visit, with Tennessee set to get the visit the weekend before.
5. Martin is still a very important target for Tennessee and is very much a take in this class.
Unbelievable.
I wish Chavis would've given this type of effort in recruiting when he was here.
