'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Chavis take alot of grief from those who really have no idea. What they do not understand is that Chavis was never asked by Fulmer to go on the road. The staff is limited on the number of coaches that can go on the road at one time. Someone has to stay behind and manage things on campus. That someone was generally John Chavis.

The reason is that while Chavis was an outstanding coach and coordinator, his personality did not lend itself to being a good in-home recruiter. But, when they get kids on campus and in meetings, that is where Chavis shines. Kids wanted to play for the man and it shows in the level of success he has experienced in every job he has ever had. Again, despite the fact that he has so many critics.

I think the point YOU just made is...now he's going INTO HOMES and doing well. Whether he NEEDS to or not hasn't been a factor.

Yet, he's doing successful in-homes with Martin and giving Butch a run for his money.

Lol ok. Chavis sure as hell has been making a ton of in-home visits recently with LSU, which was my original point.

He was never out on the road putting in this type of effort at UT. Whether that's his fault or Fulmer's, the fact is he's done a complete 180 in the past few years.

And I wasn't trying to put down Chief. I loved him when he was here but he's turned into a real thorn in the side of Tennessee's recruiting this year (Martin, Phillips, Ugo, Jackson).

It just seems to me that with Coleman leaving and Williams gone too, that Martin would be a huge priority and likely start opposite Cam next year. Seems we are still extremely young back there still except for Cam and Foreman.

Perhaps that is why Corey Raymond was with him. If you look at some of the reports that come out when we have coaches on the road, you will see that some are out on their own (Thigpen, Elder, Gillespie and Jones himself). These are the star recruiters on our staff. The others may go out and visit schools where they are talking to coaches, but when they meet with players, geberally, one of the other 4 are with them.

His rep is so legendary by now, maybe that's all he needs...see your point...just wish Phil could have utilized that to get Hightower...or maybe even Oher?

Yea, that'd be my worry. We need to stack load in positions of need, because 2016 is our year to win. We really don't need to be playing freshman come 2016. We could use another big time CB prospect and a LT prospect. I'd be happy if we could land a Ugo/St.Louis. What'd be really bad is if Cam left after next year, and Blair didn't work out. If this happens, we might be in some trouble.

If Phil couldn't get Oher, no way Chavis could. No one had a chance besides Ole Miss, with the Tuhoys calling shots

It was always rumored to be close...I know Chavis is defense, but if he had joined Phil at an in-home, the ending of that movie might have been different.

We really need another imo

Agreed, maybe even two. As of right now, we're not deep at CB.

Sutton Jr.
Moseley So.
Foreman Jr.
Payne So.
Gaulden So. (NB?)
Abernathy Fr.
Miller Fr.

I really hope they move Evan Berry back to CB during the spring and he sticks there.

According to Woody from rivals, he has been silently committed for quite some time and silently decommitted today. Quote on the last page or two

This whole "silently committed" stuff makes me laugh.

Who gives a damn if a recruit is silently committed or not.

Especially not buying it from a JuCo guy. Who does he have to impress? There isn't a JuCo all-star game to commit at, a school ceremony, national televised commitments, or whatever the high school kids do. They usually commit early on. I don't think he's ever been committed in any way.

Woody is trying to rustle Tennessee fans a.) To get his name out b.) To market his brand and stir up the most popular social media fan base out there.

He's a tool.

If Woody's claims are true then this kid doesn't sound like he fits the mold of what Butch is trying to build here, no matter how talented. I'm not judging the kid because I take anything Woody says with a grain of salt, but if true, the kid has one agenda. He isn't interested in team or a degree, but only getting to the NFL. That doesn't usually make for very good team chemistry or a leader. JMO

That means you would turn down Cordarelle Patterson or Cam Newton. Kill that noise..... :)

There have been rumblings from others that he had committed to the staff. But from my understanding, in this case, the reason why it has not been publicly acknowledged is to make sure his grades are in order. The staff will only take him as long as they know he will be there next fall. His situation is a bit different in that he is trying to complete Juco in a shorter period of time. That just seems to be the consensus of what has transpired the last few months.

I like Foreman, leave Berry at safety. A tandem of him and TKjr. are some good sized safeties with a lot of range. Moseley and Gaulden will take big steps going forward as well. I like the young CBs a lot.

Don't want to disagree with you about Woody at all, agree that he's a tool. But I heard Doug Mathews pretty much say that Justin was a silent commit several weeks ago on his Sunday show. Not only does Doug have excellent connections with the staff and AD, but he also went to the same JUCO when he was a player and he still has very good connections with those guys.
