While Simmons admitted that he once thought Kamara was more of an all-purpose back who might be a great fit in an Oregon-type role *a slot type of guy, he said he now views Kamara differently.
When you see him in person and you see him with the style he runs with and the way hes put together, I think that removes any doubt that this kid is some sort of a wide receiver in the backfield. I mean, he is a physical kid that has a very downhill mentality when the ball is in his hands, Simmons said.
Hes an exciting kid as purely a running back, for sure.
Simmons said Kamara also is an important addition for the Vols as the most pure, prototypical running back that theyll have.
I think hes got a very complete skill set, Simmons said. He doesnt, from just a talent standpoint, have a lot of holes in his game. I think he can be on the field every down. I think he can get north (and) south and get tough yardage. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. Guys like*Jalen Hurd*obviously have more upside than anybody. You kind of are waiting to see how his game is going to project to the college level.
But when you throw Kamara in the mix, I just think youre getting a very kind of stabilizing force in that backfield and a guy that can answer any questions that youve got, any needs you may have.
