'15 JUCO WR Camion Patrick

That's disappointing. Any idea of what happened?

What happened?

He blew off the drivers ed class he needed to pass in order to be eligible for his senior year of high school football in favor of going to Rivals/Nike/etc prospect camps. He just didn't go to the class and he still expected to be passed so he could play, but LCHS administration and faculty showed some integrity and refused to be used.

It's really that simple. From that point on it's been one excuse after another. Not really surprised. Once it was determined that he would have to go the juco route it was a huge long shot that he would ever end up back at UT.

Camion is a waste. Talent comparable to North. No, i'm not high. Wish there was a way he could walk on for a year or something.

Woods is all vol. You would not want him at cornerback either, just saying

having played with him in high school it saddens me to think what if with this kid. we had josh smith and Jonathan Johnson running around the field this year. he could have really came in and made an impact as a freshman, as all I think he was missing was some actual coaching. any word if he landed at any fcs schools or attempted juco again?

I think Hubbs said on radio a couple weeks ago he thought Patrick wasn't anywhere right now, not enrolled. I could be mistaken though.

Just goes to show that you can't always just skate by on athleticism alone. Got to put in the work in the class room as well. Hate it bc he had a ton of potential and a great opportunity to get a free education and possibly play football for a living.

I really makes me sad for the kid. He's a victim of his surroundings. Not saying he couldn't pull himself out of it ---- but it's hard when that's all you know.

My son was a grade ahead of Camion at Clinton. They had a few players sign FCS and local college scholarships during this period. Darian Stone and Weston Hazelhurst come to mind. They were really good players. There was something about Camion's play, though, that made you turn to the person beside you and say "What the hell?". He was bigger than his measurables indicate. And he was fast and fearless. He commanded respect on the field even as a sophomore.

Sad ending to a potentially great story.

Yup and a bigger indictment on the teachers and guidance counselors who let him skate by for all those year.

The public education system in our country is a JOKE. And then add to it uncaring parents and school administrators only caring about budgets and funding; you have a complete cluster f***.

I like your posts.... but 100% disagree with the bolded.

This mentality is the reason for a significant amount of problems in our society. Since when is it the responsibility of a teacher or counselor to hold a 17-18 yr old kids hand? They can't do the work for him and they aren't there to replace parents or family.

It all starts and ends in the home life.... I can post endless statistics...

Patrick was given the same opportunity as any other kid... he chose to waste it. It's a tragedy... but to push blame on others... well you get my point.

Ya totally agree. Bad stuff is going to happen. It's what ya do after the storm that matters. Grades and being accountable for yourself is important to future bosses, etc. At the end of the day you only have yourself to blame if things go south. Most of us have all been to college and had those teachers that try to make simple addition rocket science, but you can't give up on yourself and look for excuses as to why you did bad. You just have to get back up and go at it again.

Agree totally with all this. Saddens me to see how not involved the parents are down here. Out of all 5 teams at pop warner only 8 kids made honor role for the whole year. That includes cheerleaders.

I read Jay's post as an issue of accountability both for Patrick and his parents, rather than responsibility for whether or not he made it. I.e. the teachers'/GCs' roles were to fail him/not let him play early on if he wasn't cutting it, and to put it on his parents so that he was forced to work harder, not that the teachers should have taken on the parental role. I may have misinterpreted though. I do agree with you... absolutely starts at home and it shouldn't be on teachers to do the parents' job.

I literally have not personally been around anyone as athletic as him.

He actually 360 dunk on me in a pick up game of basketball... and it was at ease for him. He could literally get his armpit above the rim. He hardly worked out or trained just imagine what could have been. what a shame.

he was so athletic.

:sad::shakehead:

You missed the point of my post. The problem isn't when he was 17-18.

It was when he was 12-16 and he continued to get passed along and allowed to play and remain eligible.

It is absolutely the schools responsibility to put their foot down and not allow a kid, who isn't cutting it academically, to continually pass classes and play sports.

NOt once have I absolved the parents from their responsibilities. There are two fronts that must work in order for you child to be educated properly...

I responded to the section of your post that I bolded.

I just think this blame shifting and lack of responsibility of an individual is pathetic. The fault lies with the student first, then to his family.

If you can show me where a kid has a 504 accommodation plan that isn't being met, then I'll listen to an argument about blaming a school.

Cam was Legit.

If u don't find fault with a school that continues to pass and keep kids eligible who shouldn't be passed just bc of their athletic prowess than i have nothing else
