'15 JUCO WR Camion Patrick

Cam was Legit.

If u don't find fault with a school that continues to pass and keep kids eligible who shouldn't be passed just bc of their athletic prowess than i have nothing else

Im in no way disagreeing with you.. But, and I have no clue, he may have been in resource classes that are designed for the students with learning disorders. Again, I dont know this to be the case in any shape, form, or fashion.

I'm a proud alumni of Clinton High School, but I'm also ashamed to say I have witnessed too many of my fellow classmates slide by and hang out in the gym when they were supposed to be in class. All they needed was a note from one of the coaches and they could pretty much get out of about anything. Does the name Jermaine Shepherd ring a bell? Kid was lights out, honorable mention all-american, was offered somewhat to play for Ohio State and some other schools pending he get his grades up and didn't even last two weeks in college. Lots of other stories like that for my hometown too unfortunately.

Scott Witt is another Clinton grad who comes to mind immediately who was in that same situation. He was one of the best running backs to come out of Tennessee in many a year, and only lasted a half semester of junior college. He and Patrick are classic examples of being 10 million dollar physical talents walking around with a 10 cent heads on their shoulders.

Jay I know your pretty respected for your evaluation of talent. How did you compare cam and north coming out of high school?

I'm not Jay but I'll chime in...

When he committed to us, I was elated. I knew he was flying under the radar. With some conditioning and coaching he coulda been a monster. The power in his game was Megatron-like. He was already 6'3" and 220lbs as a 17 year old Junior.

I've watched a lot of 'Live' football in my life --- from middle school to pros. I've seen many terrific athletes in person including every UT player for the past 30 years and most great NFL players during the same period. VERY few of them take your breath away and make you watch every move they make field because you're afraid to miss something.

Camion Patrick had it. No joke. Anybody that watched him play at Clinton or Lenoir City knows what I'm talking about.

And he's probably sitting on someone's couch right now doing nothing.

They say that Scottie Whitt was such an unbelievable talent, especially for his size. Something similar to Hurds size, bout an inch or so shorter and give or take about 25 pounds depending on who you ask. Regardless, no one could ever catch him. I'm pretty sure he could have played in the NFL right out of high school, he was that good. However, he was also interested in selling crack and it landed him in jail where he remains today.

If anyone on here witnessed him play please share your story. I'm about 10 years after his class so obviously I've only heard stories.

Yup and a bigger indictment on the teachers and guidance counselors who let him skate by for all those year.

The public education system in our country is a JOKE. And then add to it uncaring parents and school administrators only caring about budgets and funding; you have a complete cluster f***.

Totally agree. Why we refuse to follow some of the European education models baffles me.

I was a dragon 05-08 and thw coahes there like scarborough and rhodey used to always show us highlights from the scotty whitt era and he was beyond amazing. especially in their 14-1 year where they went to the ship. that whole team was so good. shame they didnt win it all.

I like your posts.... but 100% disagree with the bolded.

This mentality is the reason for a significant amount of problems in our society. Since when is it the responsibility of a teacher or counselor to hold a 17-18 yr old kids hand? They can't do the work for him and they aren't there to replace parents or family.

It all starts and ends in the home life.... I can post endless statistics...

Patrick was given the same opportunity as any other kid... he chose to waste it. It's a tragedy... but to push blame on others... well you get my point.

If you read the whole posts, he said add in the uncaring parents. Alot of great teachers. BUT, not all are great.

Some don't care and do not teach in the class room but just show movies all day or let them goof off.

Parents have to be involved to deal with that situation and to help the kids when they have good teachers.

But, some of the blame does lay at the feet of teachers, coaches, and administration in several instances.

I was coaching middle school football when Cam played at Clinton middle and he single handily beat the will out of our kids , we had no one that wanted to tackle him after the first quarter. He was an unbelievable talent, his size, speed, and athletic ability would have allowed him a lot of playing time as a freshman at Tennessee.

Does anybody have current information on Camion Patrick? I always hold out hope he can make a Von Pearson-type turnaround.

This x1000. Camion, in all honesty, is one of the biggest cases of wasted potential I've seen in awhile. He has the ability to play in the NFL, but unless he turns it around he never will.

Yea. And his time is running out.

Makes you sad and mad all at the same time. What a damn waste.

Has the ability on the field, but struggled to much with grades. Too far behind now, and will join the long list of talented players from Clinton that never turned out. What a shame.

Agreed, I hate to see someone waste his talent like that. He'll be the 35 year old guy still wearing his high school letter jacket talking about what could have been...

Uncle Rico: Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.
Kip: Are you serious?
Uncle Rico: I'm dead serious.

How much you wanna bet I can throw a football over that mountain?

Man, if coach had put me in we would have taken state...
