Thursday was a very interesting day to say the least but the good news for Tennessee was certainly that the Vols ended up landing a third running back in this class as John Kelly chose the Vols over Minnesota, Michigan State and Michigan.
In the end this came down to Tennessee and Minnesota and we've been told by multiple sources that Minnesota made a full-out charge on Kelly on Thursday in hopes of getting him to visit, including using Mike Bajakian's departure from Tennessee as a sign of unsettlement.
But, credit Robert Gillespie who spent the day in Michigan with Kelly reassuring him that the running back position would still be a focal point of the Vols' offense in the future.
Gillespie may owe an assist to Alvin Kamara. Kamara talked to Kelly throughout the day to reassure him that Tennessee is a place that despite Bajakian leaving, still has plenty of stability. We were told that Kamara's conversations with Kelly definitely had a calming influence on Kelly as he went back-and-forth throughout the day on whether or not to decide.
Kelly wasn't the only running back prospect Kamara talked to on Thursday.
