Tuttle says Tennessee felt like home.

Defensive tackle Shy Tuttle (Lexington, N.C./North Davidson) verbally committed to Tennessee at a press conference at his high school.

Shy Tuttle is one of the top recruits in America.

Tuttle said he chose the Volunteers over North Carolina and North Carolina State because he felt comfortable there.

“I like the atmosphere,” Tuttle said of Tennessee. “I have a good relationship with the coaches.”

It was a group effort for the Volunteers to land one of the nation’s elite recruits. Tennessee defensive line coach Steve Stripling led the way with assists from area recruiter Mark Elder and ace recruiter Tommy Thigpen.

“Coach Stripling talked to me every day,” Tuttle said. “He’s pretty cool as a person.”

Tuttle likes Tennessee's future. The Volunteers signed a Top 10 class in 2014 and are placed inside the nation’s Top 10 this cycle.

“They are doing a pretty good job of rebuilding,” Tuttle said of Tennessee. “I like the way they treated me with respect and it feels like home there.”

Tuttle said he communicates with five-star defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie through social media often. Tuttle and McKenzie form the nation’s elite pair of defensive tackle commits.

“It should be pretty good,” Tuttle said. “You can’t double team us both. It will work to our advantage.”

As a junior, Tuttle had 73 tackles, four tackles for loss and an interception despite playing with a torn labrum.

As a sophomore, Tuttle had 97 solo tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, five pass breakups and five rushing touchdowns on six carries.

As a freshman, Tuttle recorded 71 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, nine sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and returned a one-handed interception 25 yards for a touchdown.

I just smile everytime I think about Tuttle and Mckenzie on the field at the same time. Those 2 guys will crack skulls together. The entire SEC just cringed.

Funny, in the ESPN write-up on the Tuttle commitment they alternate back and forth between calling him Settle and Tuttle.....a sign of things to come? :D

Four-star Class of 2015 defensive tackle Shy Tuttle, the No. 31 prospect in the ESPN 300, committed to Tennessee on Friday over North Carolina in a ceremony at North Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina.

Tuttle is the seventh ESPN 300 commitment for the Volunteers, who have the No. 10-ranked class for 2015 and were pretty creative in recruiting Tuttle.

It is the second ESPN 300 prospect out of North Carolina that has been landed by Vols coach Butch Jones. Derrell Scott of Havelock, North Carolina, also committed to Tennessee.

Settle, the fifth-ranked defensive tackle in the ESPN 300, ultimately picked Tennessee over the home-state Tar Heels in a highly competitive recruitment that also included NC State and Clemson.

Tuttle's uncle, former first-round NFL draft selection Perry Tuttle, played on Clemson's 1981 national title team.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Settle, a 2015 Under Armour All-America Game selection, made a handful of unofficial visits to Knoxville since January, including the Volunteers' season-opening win over Utah State. He followed the visit to Knoxville with a trip to Chapel Hill for the Tar Heels' win over San Diego State.

Wow!
It appears the defensive woes are a thing of the past at UT. The only thing better than depth is talented depth. The D line looks to be crazy good for several years. And Tuttle and KMac will have the luxury of working their way into playing. UT should have a few experienced seniors next year to help get them ready. Would love to see UT get a true superstar CB, since they seem to have top talent at every other position on defense. Imagine next year with Hendrix, Barnett, Sawyers, O. Williams among others with a year of experience in the program. Yikes!!
Now, CBJ needs to update that HS offensive crap they are running over there and go win some championships.
