It's soooo much worse this year

How so?

Florida loss last year was much worse.

Georgia loss same (3 pts)

Ole Miss is #3 in nation - on par with Auburn last year. Similar score/result except our defense was MUCH better.

There are 5 games left - people need to chill with the chicken little routine - no sure bets for 4 of the next 5.

I'm talking purely offensive output

Same thing was worried about last year after Auburn, Mizzou & Vandy losses.

IIRC no one decommitted.

Another year and most would expect to see much improvement from year 1. I'd think a lot of recruits are looking for much improvement in year 2 as well. The defensive recruits seem to really like what they are seeing. Offensive recruits, we'll see how it plays out. I'd bet there are some concerns there.

I've followed recruiting for over 10 yrs and have never seen or heard of any team having lots of decommits due to the current team's performance.

I've found that generally recruits are loyal to the head coach & asst coaches they have formed a relationship with - not the W-L record of their future teammates.

I am concerned. Butch has been selling recruits on the rebuilding process, being part of something special and early playing time. It has been working but at some point recruits are going to need to see some winning and progress.

I am not in panic mode. However if the Vols were to somehow fail to win 6 games or even less likely, lose like 7-8 games, I could see some offensive commits looking elsewhere. And frankly if that win/loss scenario happens, I don't know if you could blame them.

Has this ever happened before that you know about?

If yes, what school? What coaching staff?

If you're looking for a quote or something where a recruit flat out said, "I am de-committing because they did not win enough", I doubt it's out there. Most would obviously give another reason. Kyle Phillips and many recruits like him play the wait and see game to see how a schools season plays out. Are there commits who decide later on that this team and their losing may not be for them? I have no doubt. It is just year 2 for this staff and hopefully the commitments stick. As others have mentioned if we lost 1-2 because of how the offense is playing would not shock me at all.

So just general concern?

We got Josh Malone after the Vandy loss. I'm not concerned about recruiting - that is the one area this staff has covered.

2014-2015 stand to be the best consecutive recruiting classes since the late 90s.

Yes they did. That was still year 1 and the improvement people/recruits are looking for would be more toward year 2. Still a while to go till NSD after year 2. We'll see. Hopefully the staff can hold the class together, especially on offense.

Not generally. Recruits generally think they are the answer to turning around a team. Generally staff changes make more recruits defect than wins and losses. I mean maybe it might happen but it's unlikely and more than likely there is other reasons behind the change.

We should be able to get a lot of important guys locked up as early enrollees this year anyways.

Recruits don't get spooked and run off because of bad records. They know what to expect.. Coaches prepare them for seasons like this..

They decommit because after really bad seasons, there are usually coaching changes and recruiting is about relationships.

I don't see us running any coaches off anytime soon, and that's a big reason why.. Continuity brings about some really good things in CFB.

Some of you guys have gone full retard on these threads. Any player or former player can see where this program is headed. There is just one piece of this puzzle left and that is the offensive line. Even if we just hold serve with who we have and who is committed the line will get better with time together. We do need a true tackle, but we are really good everywhere else on the field. Be patient people.

Josh Nunes decommitted from UT (2008?) following a very poor performance during his OV. I believe it was the same year Casey Kelly opted to play pro baseball. IIRC we had to reach for Nick Lamaison in order to sign a QB in that class.

Josh Nunes decommitted after we booed our Vols during a home loss (6-30) to Florida.

Andy Staples: Vocal fans not helping Tennessee's recruiting efforts - More Sports - SI.com

Casey Kelly chose another sport, not another school.

Kiffin brought Lamaison in IIRC.

However, that was after Kiffin cut Tajh Boyd & Bryce Petty loose.

Nunes just used it as an excuse but anyone paying attention knew he was going to flip to Stanford to stay close to home. He sucks anyway

I agree. But, it sure made the decision far easier when TV cameras were turned on UT "fans" wearing bags over their heads to hide their supposed embarrassment at the on-field performance.
