'15 NC RB Bryce Love

Where in the heck is football in all of this? While we may lack the educational opportunities or pedigree of Stanford (or UNC, bracketing the recent controversy), and while we may not be as close to home, we are a heckuva lot better when it comes the the thing that Love specializes in.

Oh, I'm not dismissing football. But Love is a high GPA kid with academic aspirations, and education is important to his family. Stanford has a respected football program, too. I'm not discounting UT in any way. I just think Love is headed for Stanford, and Stanford's academic reputation will be the deciding factor. I'd be happy to be wrong.

Agreed. I think we have a small shot at him only because of distance, but ultimately I think he's cardinal

Stating that one school is top in academics is a bit too simplistic. Much depends on the particular field. Columbia and Northwestern are tops in journalism and, perhaps, English. You must include CalTech and MIT in many technical areas. Johns Hopkins graduate schools lead in medicine, history and international relations. And, one might ask a certain Joshua Dobbs for his recommendation on aeronautical engineering.

What this guy said.

Besides that, though, some colleges just have better professors. The student's willingness to learn can be affected by external factors, one of those being the environment he is put in. That includes his piers and the faculty. Teachers matter.

I should think Florida Gulf Coast might have some solid piers to build on!
But first let me check with my peers if Love has any pocket presents to help Dobbs out😄

To play devil's advocate, Stanford has had a much higher win % and NFL draft pedigree over the past 10 years than we have. Obviously we're on the upswing, but it's a stretch to say after one 7-6 season that our football program is a "heckuva lot" better than Stanford's.

I have a nephew that's been working hard to get in Annapolis. The kid's grades are on point and he has been jumping through what ever hoops they throw at him but it's just one thing after another. I had no idea how hard it was to get in. He's a good kid and I want nothing but the best for him and I'm glad he's going after what he wants.

Good luck to him. It is not easy getting in. My niece definitely had the grades but she was lucky in that the private school she attended was top notch and told any of their students if they wanted to go to a service academy they had the pull to get them in politically. Apparently she did not have to jump through the hoops that many kids have to and she was accepted not too long after she applied.

Stanford has won more games, but we have more players in the NFL so I wouldn't say their NFL pedigree is "much higher" than ours...

Record since 2004: Stanford 81-57(.587). Tennessee 74-64(.536).
Players in the NFL in 2014: Stanford 37. Tennessee 40

How about all time...

Vols: 811-367-54 (.680)
Stanford: 613-445-49 (.576)

Not even close

I'm a veteran and I have nothing against the service academies. I feel you can get a very good education there. However they are not in the same class as Stanford, MIT, and the like. To say they are is just wrong.

Forbes would disagree with you. They're a pretty big deal in the Business world.

This. All of them are top 10 public universities IIRC. Stanford, of course is private, and ranked #2 overall.

US Military Academy ranked #1 (#7 overall)
US Naval Academy ranked #3 (#28 overall)
US Air Force Academy ranked #6 (#31 overall)

They are all pretty closely ranked.

I did my PhD at the university that has been ranked #1 in the WORLD the most times in the last decade. Yes, of course it's true that these places (incl. Stanford) are more elite for various reasons and, as a result, command higher salaries, etc. for their graduates. They definitely help you more in job hunting when it comes to getting your foot in the door. However, once you're in, the playing field is level once again and the more creative, hard-working, and personable types are the ones who tend to advance over their peers.

Places like Stanford also cost a lot more money to attend than most public Universities too.

"Bryce Love's father told me they still plan on visiting for Bryce's official visit this weekend."

-Fortenberry

If Bussey flips, we still may get Love. If Bussey does make that visit this weekend he could lose his spot, and we may still get Love.

Still A LOT of moving parts in this class. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Fun stuff :)

Per Hubbs

...it seems Tennessee is still bringing in Bryce Love this weekend as his father told us Thursday night their plan was to still be in Knoxville for an official visit.

With numbers very tight and the Vols just landing Kelly, it's not easy to find a spot for Love unless Bussey changes his mind and goes with the Aggies down the stretch. But, it seems Tennessee certainly still has interest in the four-star all-purpose back and as of Thursday the plan was to still host him.

It's still a Tennessee-Stanford race for the most part but don't sleep on Virginia Tech, either, as they've been in the home the last few weeks trying to impress Love.

I would take Love if he wanted to commit, Bussey opened his spot up by taking that visit IMO.
