'15 NC RB Johnny Frasier

I want Johnny over Love. But Love would be ok if Johnny wants to go elsewhere. I do not see us pulling Richmond though. I think he is a solid commit.

Johnny was on the road tonight at North Duplin, the team he set the state record for points in a single game (50) against last year. They did a little better this time, or maybe I should say Princeton's coach was more merciful.

Frasier carried the ball 11 times for 249 yards and four touchdowns, including a 94-yard touchdown run, in a 67-29 victory. North Duplin trailed just 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, but Princeton made it 40-14 by halftime and 61-21 after three. North Duplin is a much better team than who Princeton played against last week, extremely well-coached, but doesn't match up athletically with Princeton, which is also well-coached.

He's at 1,448 yards for the season in nine games, on just 122 carries. 45 of those came in just two games--against James Kenan and Midway, a 2-A school.

The competition is a little better in the next two weeks, with Princeton playing the two best teams in their conference other than JK and themselves, Lakewood at home on Friday and at arch-rival Rosewood two weeks from now. Shouldn't be anything the Dawgs can't handle, though.

Think Richmond is far from solid. Def have a good shot at flipping him along with Jefferson.

That competition level still bothers me. I've coached against Rosewood as an assistant at Aycock and Goldsboro. And never lost to them. Never even had a close game. But Johnny does have great size and looks the part.

I would hope you never had a close game, seeing as how for most of recent history, Rosewood was a tiny 1-A school and those were 3-A teams (Goldsboro was 4-A until 1996). Even in the last realignment cycle, when Goldsboro was 1-A, it was 2-A size after the first year.

No one is saying Frasier is great because he can rack up huge stats against Rosewood. Not dogging Rosewood because they're a team we cover and I have many friends there, but last year, any decent high school running back could have had a big day against them. They had a lot of sophomores playing. But this year, they have their best team in several years, and have won six of their last seven (the loss was JK, and it was respectable).

Frasier's put up huge stats against two teams that won a state championship, although Princeton as a team wasn't quite good enough to win those games. If he's not that good, then he's fooling my eyes that have covered high school football for 21 years, and he's fooling a lot of other eyes around the country, too. Including those of the UT coaching staff.

I post on here with his stats every week because I either see him play or someone working for me does every week, and since Johnny is a prime target of the UT coaching staff, I thought our fans would like some perspective from someone who actually watches him play. But by no means am I saying he's great because he can go 11-249 against North Duplin High School. He's an outstanding player because I've seen him do things on a football field that would lead to success against the University of Alabama as much as they do against North Duplin High School.

Anyway, Friday night is Senior Night at Princeton, Johnny's last regular-season home game, and it's against an opponent that can play a little football. He might get to stay in a little longer.

Frasier's return to Tennessee on an unofficial visit just three weeks after his official visit to Knoxville undoubtedly should be viewed as a good sign for the Vols. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Frasier has been committed to Florida State for more than two months, and he's still planning to use all of his remaining official visits. But Frasier consistently has shown interest in Tennessee over the past several months, and the Vols appear to be emerging as legitimate contenders for the top-100 running back. Things could get a bit more interesting for Frasier if Florida State lands top-100 running back Jacques Patrick of Orlando, Fla. The Seminoles are the favorites to land Patrick when he announces his decision Monday night.
