I really don't want to be a negavol but for a coach that is 100% defensive minded and will tell you himself he is a defensive coach this is an alarming stat.

On the positive side I'm glad to see that Jordan continues to improve.

The crazy thing is that our offensive efficiency numbers under Martin have been fine.

It's our defensive efficiency that's been the problem.

lol tell me about it. If you can make any sense out of it please let me know. I have no problem with a coach that is defensive minded I really don't. But if that is your philosophy how can it be your downfall and statistically weakest point??

Useless stats apart from the ones pertaining to rebounding.

:lolabove: yea those dang stats. They are really useless and have no indication of your strengths, weaknesses, or performance overall. Why do they even keep those things?

It's kind of baffling almost. Especially when you consider how much the fanbase *****es about the offense. This is true. When Tennessee doesn't well offensively, it is really ugly because we don't push the pace AND we don't play Wisconsin. By no means is Wisconsin an intriguing team to watch usually, but I don't consider them an ugly team despite their pace because usually they play solid defense even if their offense isn't working.

For Tennessee, it's bad.

Unfortunately, the gap between good intentions and reality is fairly common. I'm sure Cuonzo wants to be a good defensive coach. His mentor - Gene Keady - pounded that philosophy into him and he - Cuonzo - personally was a good defender.

However, none of his teams - not even the Missouri State teams - have played very good defense. They put up some good defensive scoring stats, but that was mainly a function of pace.

That being said, that doesn't matter as much if you are scoring efficiently and, for the most part, the Vols have gotten better at that part of the game - as the stats show.

I still think the real key to this team solidifying is cutting that rotation down and getting the top 8 or so the opportunity to be comfortable with each other. Need to finish December strong and be ready to go out the gate for the SEC season. Do those two things and there won't be talk of bubbles in late February.

It's too early in the season to use any of those as indicators of how this team will perform as the season progresses. The only stats that may stay the same and/or improve IMO are the rebounding ones.

Seems like we decided last season that Martin's defensive reputation was built on myth or skewed by the low possession game.
The efficiency rating will give a better idea of improvement or not.

The numbers don't support the opinion that we can't shoot or that our offense sucks. If we could shoot better free throws it would be even better.

But but.. martin's offense is not exciting. That's why we only score 45 points per game.

There's two myths about Martin's teams that our fanbase believes but they aren't true.
1. We are great defensively
2. We are terrible offensively
