If he is as good as advertised I don't see him waiting 4 or 5 years to declare for the draft so why wasted his talent riding the pine. We will be lucky to get 3 years out of him.

Exactly this. I keep saying, these 5* skill position guys aren't trying to stay at UT for 5 years. They are thinking more along the lines of 3. I agree with you Mick, IF he is fully healthy I roll him out there as soon as I'm comfortable the he knows the playbook well enough. With that said, I wouldn't risk his health and put him on the field before his knee is ready, but RS probably wouldn't be in my thought process. Try to get him some quality reps at least by mid/late season because we will need him to be ready to go next year. If he sticks around for a 4th year that would be great. If by some chance a 5th year is a possibility it would likely be because he was injured again.

GFW, agree completely on Kirkland. The fact that no one stepped up and owned the position in the spring leads me to believe he starts this year.

Yep. Not expecting him to be a game 1 starter, but will get playing time at some point. He was vocal about not taking a RS.

Does that concern you for that position?

It does me a little considering that position has been so important to the success of our d in recent years, but I have to give the benefit of doubt to our coaches and players to be ready. I think the d line will be stouter this year, too, so maybe that will make up for the lack of experience at ML. With the d we're building we won't have to have a guy like AJ running around making every single tackle on the field. Hopefully.

Not really. I just think Kirkland is that good. Plus we wont be in the 4-3 as much as people think.

Kirkland is the answer imo. However, The calls for the defense depends on the personnel, which in turn also depends on the offense opposite of them. This why guys like Randolph and Maggitt and Jaylen Reeves-Maybin are huge for our defense.

Because they can get everyone lined up whether we are running 4-3, 4-2, 3-3-5 and 3-4, and we run variation of all of these. 4-2 with a nickel is our base dfense. Kirkland doesn't need to be up to speed just yet. His instincts and talent will float him until he starts to see the flow of everything.

Not to mention his photographic memory will serve him well when lineman execute their blocking schemes in the 1st quarter. I anticipate he will adapt quickly.

KMac: came to camp in great shape. May start game 1.
Smith: looks like a full grown man. My eventually outgrow lb completely.
Tuttle: invaluable spring reps. Will be in the 2 deep come fall.
Butcher: looked solid until injury slowed him down. Likely redshirt.
Kamara: looks like a star.
Williams: 2 to 3 months ahead of schedule. Looks to play in the fall.
Phillips: will return this summer healthy for the first time since his junior season.
J Jones: needs to add size and strength. Has a nasty streak.
Kirkland: will be full go this summer. Will push to start at mlb.
Sapp: showed up at 209 and still has his speed.

This is what I know so far.

This is the type of players that brings home the hardware.
