'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

Jennings doesn’t mince words about his drive. Losing isn’t acceptable in the Tennessee commitment’s competitive nature.

“I just refuse to lose,” Jennings said. “We can’t go down this year. It’s our last year. I refuse for Friday to be our last game.”

Jennings, a Mr. Football finalist, has completed 118-of-201 passes for a school-record 2,004 yards this season. He has 22 passing touchdowns with just two interceptions. He’s also carried the ball 111 times for 818 yards with 16 rushing touchdowns.

But his performances on the gridiron speak larger than his overall statistic line.

There was the 29-point comeback victory over Independence when he threw for 369 yards and had five total touchdowns in the Blaze’s 43-42 win after trailing 42-14 in the fourth quarter.

“He’s got a competitive spirit,” Oakland coach Thomas McDaniel said. “I don’t know how else to put it. From my perspective it’s frustrating because you want to stop him. But no one has yet to stop him. He’s played great all year."

Anyone hear Jennings interviewed on 104.5 tonight?

He said watching Dobbs makes him think about what he himself can do in this offense. And said that he thinks he himself could do better running in the open field.

I tend to agree with his statement. Dobbs will be the better passer but Jennings will be the better athlete. Jennings is an elite athlete. I will say that Dobbs has great vision and ability to make himself tiny and elusive. That is something that Jennings will have to work on because he does tend to leave himself open to take shots he wouldn't want to take in college.

The key to his college career will be harnessing his arm talent.

60% completions
22 TDs ONLY 2 INT's

If he harnesses that any more.....watch out!

Seriously, he does need some polishing and refining - as all HS Qb's do. However, with the strides he has made between last year to now, I have no doubt that he can be absolutely dynamic in this offense. Given a year to RS and learn the offense and if he can get some mop-up duties his RS-Fr year (Dobbs' Sr yr), he should be ready to go.

I am just glad that we will be debating the "back-up" QB spot over this offseason instead of the "Starter". Dobbs' emergence has at least squashed that little bit of nervousness for us next year.

I have heard most of jennings' misses are due to overthrowing guys.

A lot of time guys with big arms have to learn to scale it back.

But the differnce between just his junior and senior film is incredible. His footwork, delivery and patience have all significantly improved.

I admit as one who thought his future was at receiver or safety but now I firmly believe his is a QB.

Most of his misses, honestly, have come from drops. He has overthrown a few this year for sure. However, I see that as another fact of him being coached up. On a deep ball, the last thing you want is to under-throw a TD pass and put yourself at risk of an INT. You throw it out there and let your guy run under it. He either catches it in stride for a TD (which has happened a bunch this year) or it falls safely to the turf and live to fight another day. One of the big reasons he only has 2 INT's is he doesn't routinely do crazy stuff with the ball. To be fair, he won't be able to get away with some of his throws against SEC defenses, but that is where further coaching is necessary.

Another thing, and maybe you or volital can comment on this, but I have heard his meeting with Gruden was very beneficial to him.

You never know how a short time like that with someone will affect somebody, but I can say that it couldn't have hurt. I did hear that Gruden liked JJ and was impressed with his ability. Most of his improvement has come with him taking the coaching and working extremely hard in the Spring and Summer throwing with his receivers.

Very good post...I think as a longtime Dormady guy it's the proper place to announce my change of commitment to Jennings...of course whoever eventually wins out gets full support, but I believe in THIS kid.

Can't wait for JJ to get here and watch Dobbs a few years and learn. He'll be ready to take over when Dobbs graduates.

Hopefully JJ and Dormady both RS next year. Astro will be a Junior and play two more years. Then JJ and QD will compete for the starting job both as RsSO. They will also have Austin Kendall as a RsFR pushing them as well cause he gon be gud too.

Buzz Killington here,

Does NP transfer after spring with Dobbs on the roster and EEs QD and JJ?

I know he's a workaholic, but he's gotta know he'll never see the field with those three...

Support and root for every Volunteer.
That is my mantra :)

You going to the Oak Ridge/Rhea County game? Should be great game. Middleton and Higgins play for Oak Ridge.

I wondered if there would be a game in Oak Ridge tonight. I am actually staying in Oak Ridge at a hotel for the game tomorrow night. Rates are so much more reasonable than staying anywhere within a 10 mile radius of Knoxville. I'm flying solo until the game tomorrow night, so I doubt that I will go by myself.

Man go!!! Oak Ridge is a great venue for high school football. Go to Big Ed's pizza (if it's still there?) first, and then enjoy the game.
