'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

Wind knocked out of him.
That's good news, we need him to be healthy all year and get all the reps he can get.

I don't know if he will be a QB but he has so much ability and talent, he will be good somewhere. Obviously lots of us think Safety, anybody see anything else if QB doesn't work out.

Personally, I think he sticks at QB. If that doesn't happen, he can play corner and is a very good one. He has that natural fluidity and quick hips that make him good. He started out there his Soph year before moving to safety. Also, played a little bit on Sunday in some big situations. I think they are playing him there just trying to get him on the field, but trying to limit the big hits he would have to be a part of at Safety.

I see cornerback, safety, wide receiver. I could see him running the wildcat for us some. Impressive athlete though wherever he ends up.

I like the DB/Wildcat idea. He seems like he can fling the ball, he chucked one 50 yards with a flip of the wrist the other day. If he doesn't end up our #1 guy at QB, he could make a great change of pace at Wildcat. Excellent stuff

I guess my honest question would be; do we think he can beat out Dormady?

If so, good, we'll roll with Jennings.

If not, where does he play? Safety or Wide Receiver?

Edit: he's not playing Corner..

Yep. He could have Sherman ability at CB. He could definitely be a change of pace/wildcat type of guy for us. I just don't see him being a starting QB. I am still not sold on CBJ even giving him a shot at QB with the QBs we have coming in.

If CBJ wasn't giving him a shot at QB, he wouldn't be a Vol.

I finally got a chance to watch the Blackman-Oakland game on my DVR. The analysts called it right --- he's an athlete. He's MUCH better with his feet right now. He's not afraid of contact and he made some defenders look silly. He also got his bell rung by the safety. He'll have to learn to protect his body if he's going to survive in the SEC.

He does have a strong arm but he doesn't look like an SEC-type quarterback right now. I only saw him on two snaps on defense so I can't really make a judgement there. It seems like we could find a place for his athletic ability somewhere on the field (which is the definition of an 'athlete', right?). I just don't see how he's going to end up at Quarterback. If he does, it'll take some time to develop him.

All IMO of course.

Have to admit that I agree with you on all accounts. Definitely looks like an athlete playing QB, but by all accounts, one who is dedicated to getting better and improving himself as a QB.

Extremely athletic kid who needs to learn the finer points of QBing (how to throw the ball, form, footwork, etc.). IIRC, this is only his 2nd year playing QB, so perhaps his improvement over the course of the season will determine how much of a shot he'll get to try QB at Tennessee.

All we need this kid to do is put up Nick Marshall type numbers and we will be perfectly fine. We could have North, Pearson, Malone, Williams at WR. They will command constant safety help which will take the safeties out of the run game. We will have an experienced line to open up huge holes for our Kamara/Hurd running game. Wolf will seal the edge. Jennings has the option to hand off to RB for a dive play, take it himself off the edge, or pass it to one of our four 6ft2 4.5 WRs....I think we will be fine if Jennings become to QB.

The offense doesn't have to be complicated to be good...look at Alabama after all...AJ didn't have to make any challenging throws because of the dominant running game, and that is how we will be in 2-3 years.

He's a QB that's where his hearts at and personally I think he can develop into and SEC caliber QB. The guy has unbelievable athleticism and has had great improvement in arm strength, and accuracy.

I watched the whole Oakland Game. While Jauan is a great athlete, he did seem like just that trying to play QB. He seemed ....I dunno...awkward. He looks like what happens when you put in a WR to play QB or a WR pass play. Hopefully he will learn better mechanics and fluidity with the nuances of playing QB and I'm pulling for him. He just doesn't look like a QB to me yet. He is a baller though. Best of luck to him and Blackman!

For an avid TG fan, I would think you would give Jennings a chance too.

Oh I am going too. He may wind up being a very good QB and I hope he does. It's just it seems like he still has a long way to go before becoming an SEC caliber QB. I am sure he will improve, I am just stating an opinion very early.

I've been reluctant to say this as well, but yea i agree with you. He looked like a fish out of water but maybe that was the game plan. Maybe they knew Oakland would cover their receivers so well that it would open up a lot of running lanes and it was just all part of the plan.

I'd like to see him just drop back and throw a guy open.
