'15 TN ATH Nathan Cottrell

And he camp at GT, Cincinnati, Wofford and MTSU and received offers. And how do you know Duke is not going to offer?

Well it is a moot point now anyways, since Cottrell says that he is shutting down his recruitment. You are fighting the wrong battle. Duke is still "evaluating" him. He may get an offer down the line.

Nathan Cottrell recorded an event-high 132.72 SPARQ rating at the Atlanta Nike SPARQ Combine with an electronically timed 4.35 40, a 40.8-inch vertical and a 4.09-second shuttle

It is reported that Bruce ran a 4.03 shuttle.

For the record, I never said that either player was elite. I said that IF Cottrell was as elite as you claim him to be, he would've walked away from mighty Duke with an offer.

He's a good player. A helluva lot faster than me. There are more attributes that go into making a good football player. Speed is only one, especially at the RB position.

Bruce:

87.99 SPARQ rating

4.64 40 yd

32.0 vertical

Bruce agreed to move to the slot. Cottrell wants to play running back in college and has made that clear to UT and other schools.

Not true... he was interviewed on local Knoxville Sports Talk show and he stated that he would be open to a change of position to slot WR.

Once again camps are great they do hold some truth, but they are not wearing any pads. Put the pads and helmet on and it makes some differance. Easier to run around knowing you won't get the hell knocked out of you. Now he is fast very fast, but how often do we see guys have I run in a straight line in a college football game. Hardly ever.

FYI if you read my posts you would know I never said that Cottrell was elite.

My apologies.

However, you do act as if you know more than the coaches. That ALL the coaches in AMERICA is blind to the talent that Cottrell has. He may be good but he may not be good enough to warrant an offer from big time programs.

Could Cottrell be considered elite and Bruce no or Bruce elite and no on Cottrell? Of course. It's all in who you ask I would assume. For me the UT offer to Bruce was more he showed up to camp and did what he needed to do to get an offer. Now what kind of "offer" did he get? We'll see how it plays out.

As I said earlier, you compare the stats on the field and Cottrell is on another level IMO compared to Bruce. People on here said NO to Cottrell because of the competition he played. Oddly enough Bruce is a yes and obviously something with that argument does not add up now.

Cottrell- 120 carries- 1756 yards 22 TDs
13 catches- 276 yards 4 TDs

Bruce- 118 carries- 852 yards 8 TDs
12 catches-112 yards 0 TDs

Elite? All depends on who you ask I would assume.

Cottrell only rushed for 1756 yards this past season and I doubt all that yardage was in a straight line.

He is also "listed" as being heavier than Bruce (FWIW)

Why is this even an issue? Cottrell was scheduled to be at UT and pulled out of going. If he "wanted" to earn an offer he would've had every opportunity to earn one. So please let this thread die, because if UT was in Cottrell's heart, he would've camped to try and earn a spot. I could see if GT was threatening to pull his offer, but per GT09, they were fine with him going.

I did not "act" in any such way....

My initial post on the subject was:

"Interesting that Tennessee offered J Bruce but not Cottrell and Cottrell has legit 4.3 speed."

Up until Bruce received his offer from UT, Cotrell had offers from Ga Tech and Cinci which is far better than the offers that Bruce had to that point.

Gonna recycle this from another thread in this forum:

13 catches- 276 yards 4 TDs

Bruce- 118 carries- 852 yards 8 TDs
12 catches-112 yards 0 TDs

FWIW, Cottrell's final numbers were 131 carries for 1,922 yards (14.7 ypc) & 22 TDs, 16 catches for 289 yards & 4 TDs.

I don't know Bruce's receiving numbers but he rushed for 1,936 yards and 28 TDs, and I think he averaged around 9 yards per carry.

Cottrell camped at those schools, Bruce has not. The only camp that Bruce attended was the UT camp. You may want to ask Cottrell why he chose not to camp at UT. Why he chose not to earn his offer. Bruce earned his, why didn't Cottrell do the same thing.

You keep harping on his 4.3 legit speed, but no schools are beating down his door without him first camping. There is more to football than straight line speed.

Where did you find Bruce's 2013 stats? Max Preps?

Do you have to be a member see content?

Good call, I just looked back and Bruce's numbers I saw were from 2012. They don't list his 2013 stats I guess on 247.

I guess all those yards that Cottrell rushed for were in a straight line...... :p

You and many others doing all the bashing here are completely missing the point. You guys raise heck when anyone says anything negative about a player who Tennessee has offered yet many of you are running down Cottrell for one reason or another.

I have not taken any shots whatsoever at Bruce but you act is if I have. Once again VolNation has proven again that this not a place for discussion.

No other schools are offering him, why is that? You, as well as others keep harping on him getting an offer. Has he earned an offer? I don't think any of the SEC schools feel that he has either. Maybe that will change in the months to come.

Perhaps CBJ and NC have something cooking on the down low. NC pulling out of camp could be part of the plan as to not get GT coaches upset. I wouldn't put anything past CBJ when it comes to recruiting. :whistling:

I have kept up with this thread the last few weeks, and I don't recall anyone "bashing" Cottrell whatsoever. In fact, I think most are saying that is damn fast, but just being fast doesn't make you a great football player. I agree.

It becomes very difficult to have discussions when people are emotionally invested and throw around accusations that simply aren't true. I trust our coaches because they have shown to be very good talent evaluators. No one is bashing a player.
