Looks like they might land McMillon too. Too bad for those two and Sheffield that they're going to be swimming in a sea of mediocrity.

I also found Smith's comments about getting Richardson and Van Jefferson amusing.

That was a "bless your heart" moment.

I'm more worried about Utah State than Vandy this year.

And I'm not worried about Utah State at all.

In the past 5 minutes, I've seen multiple obvious sarcastic posts with serious responses. The blue font has officially ruined this forum.

It appears Josh Smith just hasn't progressed or developed enough in the eyes of college football coaches & evaluators. He is Petera Wilson 2.0.

He will announce his college football decision on July 8th or July 9th at The Opening in Oregon. His three finalists are Kentucky, Vanderbilt, & Purdue. Tennessee never really pushed or heavily pursued Smith & hasn't been in contact with him for a good while.

Smith is still obviously a Vanderbilt lean ATP. And good for him. I am fairly close with one of the coaches at Oakland and he tells me Smith is a very good kid. And I will never talk negatively about a recruit or prospect who chooses to play with his brother and/or relative. Can't blame him there, I would do the same thing.

I just thought it was interesting to look at how some prospects' recruiting stock can fall so far so fast & how recruiting websites' offer lists on recruits are not always very accurate.

Also, the fact that UT never really pushed much with Smith would indicate to me that UT's coaching staff is feeling generally optimistic with their chances with remaining prep LB prospects. The feeling I've gathered is that Sapp is all but a done deal to UT. Cherry & Smith are both solid. I don't know much else about LB recruiting. I think all UT fans would very much want Ricky DeBerry. He is a talented player. The feeling now is UT will be in the thick of it with DeBerry throughout the recruitment, but like it has already been mentioned on this VN board, it seems DeBerry's father might like the idea of Ricky playing college football at UT more so than Ricky does. We will all see.

Go Vols.

Later Rednecks.

Congrats on the McKenzie pick up he will be a handful to reckon with for years to come.

It is funny how players get bashed when they commit to other schools and the comments that Josh Smith has not progressed, but somehow he makes the all tournament team at the Opening. Butch Jones saw that he was a Vanderbilt commit and didn't want to spend anymore time or resources on him thus he quit pursuing him, but to talk bad about a kid that you have no idea about during the recruiting process is entertaining and ranks right up there with "we didn't want him anyway". He apparently is a good kid and a good athlete and should be supported as a local kid that made it to the SEC.

Before anyway asks "why are you here", I live in Knoxville and follow the Vols as well as Vanderbilt. Looking forward to the season.

Nobody doubts that he was a Vandy lock. But even though he was going to pick Vandy, at least have some other finalists besides Kentucky and Purdue. That's says a lot IMO.

Our Rivals guys on VQ have said that UT's staff feels like Smith will grow into a DE in the future. We have better options at DE right now than Smith.

His final 3 were UK, Vandy, and Purdue. Why wasn't Bama or UT in that group. They are definitely better football schools than the aforementioned group? He just wasn't a take anymore.

Same thing for Josh McMillan too. He doesn't fit what we want at LB, so we've moved on. Vandy isn't really in a position right now to turn away any kind of decent players.

Tennessee stopped recruiting him awhile ago. Has nothing to do with Vaginabilt.

Looks like a good get for y'all though.

I thought Smith looked really good from the video's from the opening I saw and agree that we probably just realized he wasn't worth putting time into with him a lock to Vandy. If he was a 5* top 10 talent in the country they may not have done that but since we have other prospects that are around his talent level I think it was an easier decision.

The Smith brother's will be players we have to worry about the next 4 years for sure.

By all accounts, he is a great kid with a good work ethic. Good pickup for Vandy. No doubt. I was hoping we could pull him, but i don't think we pursued as hard as some other guys, because of his eventual position.

It's just odd that he didn't have a veritable pantheon of finalists if he's so elite. I know that sounds like I'm marginalizing him, but that's just what the evidence suggests.

When Austin Smith committed, we stopped recruiting this kid.

If @ButcherAndrew1 thinks UT will beat Alabama, he is UT material, complete arrogance and ignorance, can't even beat VU. #OurState
