Congrats on the McKenzie pick up he will be a handful to reckon with for years to come.
It is funny how players get bashed when they commit to other schools and the comments that Josh Smith has not progressed, but somehow he makes the all tournament team at the Opening. Butch Jones saw that he was a Vanderbilt commit and didn't want to spend anymore time or resources on him thus he quit pursuing him, but to talk bad about a kid that you have no idea about during the recruiting process is entertaining and ranks right up there with "we didn't want him anyway". He apparently is a good kid and a good athlete and should be supported as a local kid that made it to the SEC.
Before anyway asks "why are you here", I live in Knoxville and follow the Vols as well as Vanderbilt. Looking forward to the season.
I don't get the need some fans have to talk bad about a recruit that doesn't commit to UT. Josh seems like a good kid and is a good football player. He wants to play for Vandy, close to home and with his brother. End of story.
The post he was responding to wasn't talking bad about smith. I think the his final 3 kinda back flowd up and if butch really wanted him do you think he would just stop recruiting him because he was a vandy lock
Our Rivals guys on VQ have said that UT's staff feels like Smith will grow into a DE in the future. We have better options at DE right now than Smith.
His final 3 were UK, Vandy, and Purdue. Why wasn't Bama or UT in that group. They are definitely better football schools than the aforementioned group? He just wasn't a take anymore.
Same thing for Josh McMillan too. He doesn't fit what we want at LB, so we've moved on. Vandy isn't really in a position right now to turn away any kind of decent players.

He had offers from a majority of the SEC Schools and probably wants to get on the field early and that is why he did not choose Alabama or Auburn. Vanderbilt only has about 15 slots to fill so they do have to be somewhat selective and can't sign 25+ per year, because they do not have the attrition like many of the schools. I am not saying Mason is being selective or making stretches as I have no idea if Mason can recruit or not as we have yet to see any of his players hit the field. In fact, this will be the 1st year we actually get to see 90% of the recruits that Franklin recruited to see how well his recruits pan out.
The post was originally made because of the comments that stated Josh Smith has not progressed and thus schools and coaches backed off of him.

I think we can safely say they're better (on paper at least) than anything Vandy had previously. They should still have some talent moving forward.
