"That's as good as money, sir. Those are I.O.U.'s. Go ahead and add it up, every cent's accounted for!"

Does this guy project as an inside or outside LB? He's listed as an MLB on 247 and a OLB on rivals. He looks like he moves well though to play outside to me.

He's one of the best prospects in the state next year, hopefully we can duplicate our results from last year and get the guys we want. CBJ did better locking up the state than I could have ever asked in his first full year of recruiting and a less that stellar year on the field. They only missed on one guy that they really wanted (Bars) which is pretty amazing considering the amount of talented guys that were in the state in '14.

The only other guy I wish they would have went after harder and made room for was Josh's brother--Emmanuel, but I think he was dead set on playing safety and the coaches offered him as a LB. I think he could be a heck of a LB if he bulked up to around 225-230 and honestly think that's where he will eventually end up at vandy.

I think he's a OLB all day. Fortenberry has saw Smith a lot (camps, IFM, games, and practices) and he said that every time he sees Josh, he's always getting bigger. Fort said it wouldn't surprise him if Josh ended up at DE.

Yeah I was thinking that he could very well end up as a DE if he gets much taller as well. He's already listed at 6'4" which is getting on the tall side for a LB but it's not too tall yet. But if he continues to grow he could very well outgrow the position. Height is certainly an asset for a LB up to a point but when you start to get too tall it becomes difficult to maintain the intangibles you need to play the position.

It's difficult to maintain the quickness (reactive and lateral) that are needed. It's also difficult to maintain the "bend" necessary to get low and rip through the blocks of pulling guards and stocky little fullbacks, as well as being able to keep your form on tackles which are musts for a LB. It can also be a detriment when it comes to your coverage skills which is why you don't see many tall defensive backs. In zone coverage it can make it difficult to keep the quickness in your back pedal when you're dropping into your zone and in man coverage it's hard to stick with your guy bc you can't react quick enough or close on them when they make their breaks/cuts at the top of their route.

If he is done growing then he is fine and won't have any trouble playing LB IMO but a couple more inches really can make a lot of difference (twss). I probably just stated what everybody already knew lol but oh well.

Will UT be a factor here?

"They will be a factor, but he will have more opportunities than his brother did. Alabama in it, Auburn too. He'll be back on campus this spring I believe."

I get that but all the talk about building a fence in my opinion u have to be very careful with that talk. When u take 3 star an 4 stars from other states and leave 4 stars from your own state.im not a star gazer just making a point

Have you ever thought that he just doesn't fit our defensive system? I've heard he's a tweener between OLB and DE. Maybe we are in on much better prospects that are true OLBs and DEs in our system. We can't just take a 4 star from TN just because he's a 4 star. That's no disrespect to Josh either. Some have said he would be an ideal fit at Jack LB, so maybe he is only interested in programs running a 3-4, hence Bama and Vandy are his top 2.

I didn't realize vandy ran a 3-4.i get what you are saying. My point was u rant about being states institution and building a fence it's a slippery slope all I'm saying
