Sometimes you have to look at needs as much as overall talent. IMO UT is still in a position where they need to fill needs and can't just take the best available no matter what position the kid is. Maybe the staff feels a LS is more of a priority than a random 4* OT or DE right now.

I know people will say I'm wrong but taking this kid now makes me think it's Richmond on the OL and that is it for this class. Lose out on Richmond and Clark or others may come back into play.

Lol at this forum. We were giving hell to OK for giving a full ride to a long snapper, and then boom! A week later we do the same and everyone is happy.

Anyway, Boom! Welcome goodlovin'

That's exactly my point. People were talking trash saying "at least we're not desperate enough to give a LS a scholly" or something of that nature..now that we've done it, butch is a genius.

Who knows how it'll play out a year from how but with the limited numbers in this class I just don't see why you'd give a 6'1 230 lb LS a scholarship. Oh well..butch knows more than I do.

I did not think ou was crazy at all. When your the best of the best even as a LS, you hold the cards. As Ron mentioned, UT would have had to give Horky a ship in 2015 or he likely leaves anyway. I said that the day he committed to UT. LS may not be a spot where people think a scholarship is a good idea, until you don't have one.

Who was talking trash? Most people said, "good for him, he's smart to take the scholarship."

Butch told the kid he would go on scholarship after a year if he earned the job. Obviously that didn't work out and in order to land an elite snapper, an in state one no less, you need to offer a scholarship it seems.

What's the problem?

I mean talking trash to the OU poster who chimed in an said "I think we'll be alright" or something like that. Not to the kid.

"I found out Monday about my scholarship and I pray about it a lot this week and thought about it a lot this week and realized that there's no other place in the country if I got a scholarship from that I would have chose them over Tennessee so I might as well commit when I get here," Lovingood said.

"I have been a fan throughout all the rough seasons when they were having rough seasons throughout the majority of my life to now having the opportunity when we are headed back to the top," Lovingood said.

"It was great. Great practice and great to hang out with the specialists and coach (Greg) Meyer and coach (Mark) Elder a lot," Lovingood said.

On being able to play with HS teammate Jalen Hurd:

"He's looking really good. I saw him practice. We talked about this last fall, about the opportunity to play on the same team and it was great seeing him," Lovingood added.

-VQ

Said AU, Oregon, FSU, UGA, and Clemson all showed strong interest in him. Said he knows that LS's usually don't receive full offers, and he's extremely glad that the coaches have that kind of belief and faith in him.
