'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

People keep saying that. Our OL was bad, but on a lot of passing plays there were 3+ seconds. It's a little hyperbolic to look at our poor OL play and say that almost every pass at the DL arrived instantly. There were a dozen times a game at least where we had time, and rarely were our WR getting open. Even when Dobbs would extend the play to 5+ seconds he was having no one to throw to more often than not.

The poor OL play allowed teams to put pressure on the QB without blitzing which in turn put more defenders in coverage making it harder for WRs to get open. When only rushing 4 pass coverage is hard to beat

Injuries killed that unit this year. North, Pearson and Malone were never at 100%. Not to mention horrible OL and QB play at times.

WRs haven't been healthy and haven't stepped up at times, but IMO, passing game starts up front. Worley was the better passer, but he couldn't create any time for himself, and the OL didn't help much. Having the dynamic play-making ability of Dobbs is exactly what our offense needed in hindsight.

We will need Malone and others to step up against Iowa - that is for sure.

I think they looked bad even before injuries. Josh Smith was the only consistent looking WR. No one else was getting open.

Croom started looking decent the last few games, but where was he the rest of the year?

Injured hand first 5-6 games

I don't know why Jefferson is so concerned about our current depth. We lose Pig and Pearson after next season, and if North has a good year, he might leave for the league. And we'd have no depth at all, after 2015, if we don't sign another WR.

I have a hard time believing Ole Miss and UGA have much different depth charts than us. I think this is just a kid that doesn't want to go to Tennessee.

Even though his dad is coaching a lot closer than either of them, and has one of the SEC's best QB's right now. It's a coin toss at both UGA and OM.

The commentators tonight were not the only media pundits saying Tennessee will probably win the SEC E next year. And Jefferson doesn't want to play for us because he thinks UGA and Ole Miss are going to be better teams?

I honestly don't believe we will win the East outright just yet next year. I think we will still have a lot of youth/inexperience and the depth isn't that deep in some crucial positions such as RB and OT. We also aren't going to be able to ride three true freshman DT's to a championship, either.

I think we will be 8-4. 2016 is our year.

LOL. No way he leaves for the NFL. And if Van's concerned about competing against a guy with 1 season of playing WR under his belt, he shouldn't come to Tennessee.

"But de1conley told us to 'just wait on it'"

I did and the coaches thought so likewise. I talk to Van daily, and he likes UT but there's one key factor that simply won't let it happen. I've said this before and not going to keep dwelling on it. UT recruits like Preston and Dormady continue to try but its hard to overcome momma who's there 24/7 365. It could still happen but i really doubt it.

No worries Conley. We all know he's not coming to UT. Appreciate your info through all this. Go Vols.

Any thoughts on Kyle's decision today? I'm thinking he's leaving the state.

i posted yesterday that I thought perhaps Newsome is a silent commit; hence the coaches not recruiting Van anymore. I suppose the momma factor pulls more weight though.

The thing is honestly they're trying to get him. CBJ, Azzani, and several players are still calling and recruiting Van. They really want him, but like i said it's a very awkward situation. Kid has told me numerous times he loves the coaches and wants to be a VOL. He just values way too much what his mom says.

I was told a month ago its UT but at work outs 2 wks ago he didn't know. Now Chief left and Brick is known to be going to aTm with his and that leaves no recruiting ties to LSU. For what it's worth Kalil and DKJ have been all over KP like a tick on a dog's sack in San Antonio along with Dormady coming by likewise. VN just calm down regardless of who comes and who leaves this will be a top 5 class.

So, are you saying his Mom is going to be mad if he signed with UT? Sad situation if that's the case.

Hate to see this for a kid. Always say a kid needs to go where they will be happiest.

Everything I am hearing is do not expect Van Jefferson to be an early enrollee. I keep hearing his family wants to see who UGA will hire as an OC before the Army All-American WR makes a final decision. A week ago, I would have said he is a dead lock for Ole Miss if he does not early enroll, but I don’t think that is the case. I think this a case where a family just wants to make sure. Now UGA will have to name a OC, then hold off Ole Miss, because they start school two weeks later and he would have the opportunity to early enroll there should he chose to. Jefferson has spent a ton of time with other UGA commits in San Antonio and one source told me “that group has been glued at the hips, all week long.” Other words this week did not hurt UGA’s chances down the line.

This has been a recruitment that is all about the mom. If she stayed out of it Van would have been a Vol. I don't know why she has such disdain for the Vols, but she has been adamant about Van going anywhere but here. Very sad situation. But those making the negative statements about Van and Kyle Phillips need to keep that ish to themselves, because you have no idea what the hell you are talking about. I know this is a message board and everyone is entitled to state their opinion, but parents do read these boards. If you are any kind of a mature adult and Vol fan, it would serve you (and the program) well to keep that in mind.

Totally agree!
I believe this is far more true than we realize
