'15 TX RB Corey Dauphine

He still considers himself a Texas Tech commitment but said Tennessee helped themselves this weekend. He liked coach Gillespie and likes the relationship between his players and him.*

He said next is an official visit to Arkansas, another official visit to Texas Tech in January and a final official visit to either Oregon State or Oklahoma State in January.

He's not giving much away and I'm a little surprised Baylor isn't more in the mix, but it sounded like Tennessee at least impressed him. Story coming later.

I'd guess he would be on hold right now for UT even if he wanted to commit.

From Ryan Callahan...

"Just spoke with Top247 running back Corey Dauphine as he prepared to board a flight back to Texas following his official visit to Tennessee this weekend. He said he enjoyed his time in Knoxville, he was impressed by the Vols' coaches and the atmosphere surrounding their win Saturday against Kentucky. He said he remains a Texas Tech commitment at this point, but he's definitely going to consider Tennessee moving forward as he continues taking his official visits.
Dauphine said he's scheduled to visit Arkansas next weekend, and he will take his official visit to Texas Tech sometime in January. He traveled to Tennessee this weekend by himself, but he said not having any family with him during the visit wouldn't necessarily make it tough for him to choose the Vols in the end because he'll be making his own decision about where he wants to play."

I wish his parents had came, because imo, even if they are letting him make the decision, I would think he would want his parents opinion. Maybe the coaches gave him enough material to show his parents what Tn has to offer. :crossfingers:

Absolutely not a backup plan. Thats just silly. The staff is not going to waste an official on a guy they dont want.

OK. Love and dauphine were supposedly at the top of the want list. I think one of the guys off volquest said the kid from Texas and love were at the top of the list. Then the staff uses an official visit on him because he's a backup plan? That's got to be the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

Keep Reid, Kamara, and snag Love and that's boss. Three different types of backs, all equally special in their own right. Most think Reid will bounce but he was one of our first commits in this class and I think that resonates with him.

Some folks dont seem to get it. It's simple fellas.

The coaches have a list, or a board with players they want at each position. They want each of these players, but some are higher on the list, and they simply cannot take all of them.

It is a risk/reward game, and all that is being said here is that the coaches are willing to risk not landing some players, while they wait for others.

Some of us are simply saying that they are willing to wait for a player like Love, while holding off on others. You can call it a back up, or whatever you would like, but if Love does not commit or Reid bounces, you would see the pressure turned up on Bussey and Daulphine, where as now they are likely saying, "we really want you here, but think about for a little while"

What is all this nonsense?!!? Lol :)

Thanks, RPP. His comments just screamed "I'm not a take right now for them, so let me save a little face and not act so interested, or like I was blown away by the visit." Whether you want to come to TN or not, there is no denying...an OV to TN blows everyone away! I'm not trying to be biased, but if you know anything at all about tradition of college football, then you have to be blown away by the scene on Rocky Top. Maybe I'm wrong. However, it's recruiting with Butch and this staff, and that means I ain't worried about nothin'!!

Official visits are in short supply, you don't use them on a backup plan. Heck they had Love push back his OV.

Edit: Also it was Fort that said Dauphine and Love were at the top of the "want" list of the coaches several weeks ago.

Here's how I see it. This kid will decide near NSD. We like him a lot but he's behind others on our board. We bring him in for an OV and keep recruiting him. If/when we land Love or whoever else is higher (who will decide earlier, as Love is an EE enrolling in January) then we will stop recruiting Corey. If we don't land whoever else first then we will take Corey. That's assuming he is lower on the board. If he wanted to commit now, I'm not sure if we take him or not.

See OF's comment below yours. I think that's spot-on. VQ's board doesn't always match the coaches' board. That has been proven before with commitments from recruits who they thought were further down the board. I think Chance Hall is one that comes to mind.

Perhaps but I still don't see us using OVs on someone who is a backup plan. You guys do realize that OVs are limited, you can't just have every recruit that is a backup plan on an official visit.

I would imagine Fort has a better idea about the amount of contact and interest from the coaches than most of us. That was his feeling a few weeks ago then we have Dauphine in for an official visit? Yeah I just don't see it being like that. In any case it sounds unlikely this kid will end up being a Vol so we'll have to just agree to disagree.

Your orange aviators are on. Not every recruit is blown away after a visit to UT.

Fair enough.
