'15 VA DE Darrell Taylor (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Not sure why he committed if he was just going to start looking around a month later. Wonder if he just committed to UT to save himself a seat even though he really wasn't ready to make a final decision. Just a guess though.

Really hope we keep on him either way. Ridiculous athlete. One of my favorite recruits in this defensive class, and that's saying something with the talent we have committed.

With his speed, he could play a similar role to Striker from OU. Hope we hold on here.

I think he will be a tremendous pass rusher but imo he's a more complete player than Striker was coming out of HS. He has the potential to be a do-it-all DE when he bulks up a little. Early on (as a freshman or RS freshman) I think he will be used mostly as a pass rusher but after he spends some time in the S&C program and gets bigger and stronger I think he will become a guy who can play the pass as well as the run and a guy who can stay out there for all 3 downs. At 6'4" with a good frame for adding muscle I think he can get up to around 250-260 fairly easily by the time he is a RS sophomore/Junior. The sky is the limit for this guy especially lined up on the outside of McKenzie/Tuttle/Picou.

I'd say he just wants to take some visits similar to what Cherry is doing. These guys have worked their tails off and earned the ability to take visits on the school's dime. Nothing wrong with taking some visits and making sure you made the right decision imo if you've talked to the coaches about it. And once he sees these other places and compares them to what is at UT I have a feeling he will be 100% reassured that he made the right choice. Visits to UT are hard to beat especially when the coaches role out the red carpet for a guy. I've got a good feeling that we will hang on to this one.

I really want to hold on here. If not, I hope we can land Walker. I like Phillips, but those two are better IMO.

he is almost guaranteed to endure a major coaching change if he were to switch to Tech. I'm sure our coaching staff has let him know that.

I think he sticks in the end.

Honestly, I would rather keep Taylor.
To be honest, I'm not that worried about him taking a visit. If Worley was still the QB, getting sacked 5-7 times per game, then I would be. But anyone following UT football, even at a distance, can see that this is a whole different team than the one that took the field against Ole Miss a few weeks ago.

Dobbs emergence is opening some eyes.
Scout's Take: Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs an emerging superstar - NFL.com

And really, it's not so much about salvaging this season, as it is getting a BIG jump on next season. Dobbs can get the lion's share of the 1st team reps from here on out and build on this season.....rather than go into the offseason, thinking like most of VN did a month ago, that we would have to choose between 3 bad options...Peterman, Dobbs or another True Freshman.

Having that question mark removed is HUGE! All recruits can see that our breakout season is fittin' to happen (2015)

Feel the exact same way. Let him take his visits. I think recruits are seeing that the future is bright at UT. Why people start to worry about a visit is beyond me.

Situations like Santos, Peters, and others is why. It's proven more often than not if a recruit is taking visits, you're at risk of losing them. I'm sure USCe fans said they were cool with Austin Clark recently taking a visit to VTech as he was just having fun. Well until he flipped to the hokies.

Same fans who say, "let the kid have his fun and take his visits" are the same ones who say if CBJ can just get a recruit on campus UT can flip him. Works both ways ya know. If a committed kid is taking trips, he is in no way 100% anything. JMO

CBJ is not a fan of recruits taking visits. That I can assure you.

Yeah, listening to recruits in interviews last year and the number of commitments who chose to not take any visits except the one to UT points to that being the case. I'm sure there are exceptions, but if a recruit is taking trips he may want to be careful if his intentions are to be a Vol.

I'm sure its a delicate matter. Hendrix even came out and said the coaches weren't happy that he was visiting Mizzou.

But something like Cherry visiting ASU may be something they look past. No one thinks they are a real threat.

I wouldn't even put it past CBJ to send a "mole recruit"

Cecil Cherry is taking a visit to TX, even though he posts on Twitter like he's one of the biggest VFL's there is. So, it is different from one individual to the next.

Plus, many had projected Taylor to VT. Sure, it's a risk, but it doesn't = a flip, either. They were probably working him hard just to get the visit. It's up to our staff, to try and convince him the future is brighter in Knoxville. Which it is. That's why I don't worry as much.
