'15 VA DE/OLB Ricky DeBerry

Staff picked up Cecil as an MLB, if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if they're thinking about this guy as one of their new hybrid DE/OLB types i.e. Maggitt and Weatherd.

Highly doubt that.. Weatherd and Maggitt fit that role because of their athleticism.. Cherry is tailor made for the inside.. 100 + tackle a season kind of cat in the middle of our D for years to come!

I think you misunderstood me, sir. I was talking about DeBerry as a Maggitt/Weatherd type, not Cherry.

Thought this guy committed this weekend

Just rumors with nothing much to support it. CZA tweeted #brickbybrick which could point to a commitment, but just because DeBerry and Settle were on campus does not mean it was one of them. Could be as simple as a coach interacting with the fan base via twitter. Maybe not a commitment at all.

I think he's being facetious

I think him saying that and saying #backtoback or something like that is what got ppl excited.. Especially since there were two highly rated guys here together at the same time.

Could be. When I saw #backtoback and then #DreamTeam15 or w/e it was I thought maybe it meant back to back top classes.

As I said last night, if DeBerry committed it would not surprise me.

“The Alabama offer shocked,” said DeBerry, who now holds 58 offers. “I had been talking off and on with Coach (Lance) Thompson, who is my lead recruiter. Last week, I received a message to call him. When I did, he put me on the phone with Coach (Nick) Saban. He was the one that told me that I had the offer. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t expect that offer. It’s a great program, in a great conference, and they have the titles to go along with it.”

Does the Crimson Tide offer change the dynamics of his recruitment?

“No. I’m still working toward narrowing things down. In the next two weeks, my plan to cut it down to 17 or 18 schools and then proceed from there.

“I had visited Tennessee before but Tim hadn’t, so we made arrangements to visit on our way back from Ole Miss. It was a great overall visit. I was already impressed but I liked what I saw and heard. Coach (Butch) Jones is so genuine. Like Coach London and Coach Freeze, he cares about his players as individuals off the field. I definitely like that and it’s clear that’s why all three are good recruiters. I like that it’s more than just about football and Coach Jones is one of my favorites.”

“I’m definitely deciding after my senior season. I haven’t decided how I’m going to do it yet though. It’s between announcing at my home, my school, or at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.”

Update on Rivals. Hook it up!

"It was my first time getting to see the whole coaching staff and actually getting a chance to sit down and talk to them," DeBerry explained. "I know I had met a few of them before but the whole staff wasn't there and I didn't get a chance to meet everybody so this was my first chance to see everybody and see the facilities and meet some of the new guys and early enrollees and I got to talk to them before they went on spring break. So, overall, it was a great visit."

"They really emphasized how they're trying to get Tennessee back to where it used to be and even better to where it used to be and get Tennessee back on the map and coach Butch Jones definitely trying to get them back to the national championship game like they were back in the Peyton Manning and Tee Martin days," DeBerry said. "They also emphasize after football how they have so many connections with people in business or any major that after football they are looked after as well."

"They are definitely in there with everyone else. I definitely want to see how they do this season with one of the top recruiting classes in the country," DeBerry explained. "I definitely want to see how they do this season because I know when a lot of schools get top recruits in they don't know what to do with them and they are still losing. So, I want to see what they do this season and see how it plays out."

"I think everything is coming together fine," DeBerry offered. "I know in a couple of weeks I'm going to be putting out a top 18 list of schools I really like and then I want to start narrowing things down and take visits to schools that I'm really interested in and start to figure out to where I want to go. I just want to slowly go down the list and not rush anything and just take my time."

The "Tee Martin" days... I almost threw up. Have we taken that USC fan's street sign down yet? Surely we could replace it with a true VFL like say.... Inky Johnson?
