'16 AL ATH Tadarryl Marshall (FORMER UT commit 4/28/15)

I'm not the only one asking this question. I saw Alabama, Auburn and Mizzou....Were those offers actually committable? Do we know? Because I also saw Western Ky, South Alabama, Samford, Navy, Jacksonville State, Arkansas State, Alabama State, Southern Miss, Cincinnati and Memphis. Based on those other offers, I'd guess no.

It was a legit question but you do what you typically do, which is act like an insufferable ass. Pound sand champ.

Grow a pair and stop crying when you are called out for being stupid. He had other offers, but for some reason he chose to go to Samford. No one knows why he chose to go to Samford. There may be a family dynamic in play that you are not privy to. Maybe all the recruits should contact you and get your blessing before they commit somewhere. FTR, quality talent does come out of small schools.

For example, there is an article on 247 about low ranked or unranked players that are starting in the Super Bowl. So your synopsis about someone dropping the ball is stupid.

Volssack - what year did you graduate? Are you still kicking around Birmingham or did you move on to greener pastures?

And there you go again, being you.

I asked a simple question....why recruit, offer and accept the commitment of a 3 star player with essentially mid major offers at best (clearly Bama & Auburn weren't serious offers) in a recruiting year where spots are precious for Tennessee, due to limited room, and it's important to be as selective as possible. Didn't and still doesn't make much sense. Didn't cry, didn't whine, didn't do anything but ask a question that any remotely mature poster was happy to answer and offer reasons why it might've happened. Of course, you're still butthurt from an exchange in a thread or two from months ago where you got your feelings hurt, and you had to come in like you normally do...like some punk 15 year old internet tough guy. ..whatever pal. Go engage in sexual relations with yourself.

Easy. They saw something they liked in his junior year and camps. His senior year came around and they realized they missed on their evaluation. No staff bats 1.000 on their evaluations and if you think any do or should, I got nothing for you. If this kid would have blown up his senior year, then the early offer would have helped us tremendously.

Kids come to camp and impress. They get an offer. They're told its contingent in a few things: continued improvement on the field, class work, staying out of trouble, etc. Sometimes they don't live up to the summer camp. Okonya was the same way.

I get and understand all that, I really do. It's a fair response. I'm just saying that we had limited spots and a lot of people were scratching their collective heads when a few of our early commits came aboard, Marshall being one of them. The idea was that we needed to be very selective with this class, coming off 2 top 5-7 classes. Yet, before later pulling the offer, we took the commitment of a kid that winds up at Samford.

I also know that no staff hits 1.000, and I'm not suggesting they do....see Blair, Bowles, Jenkins, et al. And this staff is usually fantastic in the recruiting game....see Chance Hall, John Kelly, Austin Smith, Coleman Thomas, et al. I just would've thought they would have seen this kid and if they liked him, put him on the back burner, slow play him a bit since there weren't other top level teams clamoring for him. It's really not that big a deal, just struck me as odd this morning when I heard he wound up at Samford and thought I'd ask the question here.

Lots of things other than athletic ability play into these things. Grades and SAT scores come to mind not to mention any number of personal issues we may never know and have no business knowing.

agreed, it just doesn't seem to be all that advantageous to give a kid an early offer. It can help, but also makes you stuck.

We also offered Dorian Banks early and he accepted. How did that go? Moved him out when his academics were clearly not going to be in order and when it was clear he did not have the ability to play SEC level football. He's headed to juco. Sometimes it just does not work out the way it is initially projected.

I'm a Samford fan and this is awesome!! The class Chris Hatcher and staff are putting together is legit!! Not to mention Samford puts guys into the NFL and it's a fantastic school education wise!
