'16 AL WR Velus Jones (Transfer)

The disconnect is that there is no middle ground with so many here on Volnation. It's usually "only a 3 star, must suck". Too many speak definitively about it, like it's a fact that all 5 stars are great, all 4 stars are pretty good and all 3 stars or below suck. It usually isn't as black and white as people make it out to be.

Exactly.

The Star Ratings are nothing more than predictive scores. I posted the actual data in FF thread a couple years ago. The data set was roughly the first 10 years of Rivals rankings.

5 Star ~ 60% chance of success
4 Star ~ 35% chance of success
3 Star ~ 10% chance of success
2 Star ~ 3% chance of success

Odds of success. That's all the Star system is.

His offers say enough to me. Oklahoma, USC and UCLA know receivers. The is explosive and hes a 4 star on a couple sites for all the star gazers. Hes very talented. He also picked up a Notre Dame offer today.

I wonder if he recommits to USC now that Helton has the gig and Tee is more than likely staying? Or I wonder if the distance factor is coming into play? Hope we can snag him.

If Tee stays at USC, I could see Jones recommitting to them. What I would really like to see is for us to make another run at Tee. And while we are at it, let's cook a deal for Peyton.

LWSVOL has stated there are trust issues between Butch and Tee over something that occurred during the previous interview process a couple of years ago. He more or less said he didn't think Tee would ever coach the Vols under Butch. TIFWIW

Anybody thought that Tee could be a QB coach prospect, rather than WR coach?

Peyton Manning would be a coach here before Tee Martin... and yes I'm very aware of the chances of Manning ending up on the sidelines of Neyland. Would he really be that much of an upgrade over Azzanni anyways? I don't think he coaches his guys up any better than CZA, and CZA has shown he can go out and recruit with the best of them.

Martin will never coach here IMO.

When did Jones decommit? I just checked his 247 page and it still says USC hard commit. Also, has there been any news that says Tee is going anywhere? If so, is there any mention of him coming to Tennessee?

If that is true, then we will never sign his son either.

Volnation loves the 2 star.. Usually a hard work and well spoken

Tommy Thigpen and Zach Azzanni were in Alabama meeting with Velus Jones. We are still expecting him to visit this weekend and from talking to several I get Tennessee feels like they've positioned themselves nicely heading into this weekend.

Alabama wide receiver Velus Jones will be on campus and this one is certainly one we've been tracking recently. Tennessee has made Jones a priority of recent and it seems to have paid as Jones has been looking forward to this trip. He's visited both Oklahoma and Michigan and in our conversations with him this week it seems as though the Sooners made much more of an impact. TCU has started to come on as of late as has Notre Dame after an offer earlier his week. Mississippi State is in the mix as well. But, Tennessee has a major opportunity to impress him this weekend as he and his family have liked what they've heard so far.
