'16 GA DE Mykelle McDaniel (UT signee 7/23/2016)

May have already been discussed, but Callahand said he will count against 2017 if he comes to TN, said they have no more schollys for 2016. Not sure if that is accurate.

For that to happen he would have to grey shirt. Callahan has no idea what scholarships they have honestly unless told by the staff. If they made the move to get him then they have to feel they can get him in somehow. With the recent transfers there are more open scholarship spots on the roster but I won't pretend to know how it all works but you can bet Butch will figure it out.

Based on his Twitter feed this is a done deal and Owen Pappoe is all over it too.

Peer recruiting will not be an issue for us the next two classes with Taylor and Mays carrying the torch for '18 and Pappoe hopefully for '19.

If this kid wants to be a Vol he's a take all day against any class. He's a 3 star with a big time offer list who everyone had doubts would qualify. I would take him over all but the best DL prospects in 2017.

Yeah, I don't know how they could add McDaniel if he officially visited yesterday. Blueshirts can't take officials, and if he is a grayshirt, then he can't enroll until January 2017. Either he came here to visit on his own bill and will blueshirt (taking a scholarship in August counting towards 2017 class), or the staff found a way to count him towards the 2016 class, which all indications suggested there were no more spots in.

We signed 25 initial counters for 2016.

Lewis can blue shirt, but not McDaniel. He took an OV and can't be backcounted, so he'll count against 2017.

There is another '19 recruit from Grayson who was congratulating him along with Pappoe. He is a safety and has an offer from us. His background on Twitter is all UT. Kenyatta Watson II.

Coach K - Kenyatta Watson-- is McDaniel's coach. KWII is his son. If McDaniel committed, they know it.

I guess we are just waiting to see if the university announces something now. Not sure how they can get him in for 2016. We had 4 blueshirts from 2015 that counted against 2016 numbers..

I am betting yesterday wasn't an OV.

Drive from Georgia would only mean limited mileage $ on a OV.

How long was he here?

It could have been a one day trip where a hotel wasn't even needed.

this is like the tax code. it should be simple and just always go against the 85 like in the NFL.(different # but you get what I mean)

I think his Dad is Mykelle's HS coach, maybe?

Edit: LA Vol'd.

You could but imo you would have to go to guaranteed 4-5 year scholarships. Otherwise coaches would be forcing out kids at an epic level to sign everyone they want the following year. Transfers would be insane there would be so many.

He signed but I bet he didn't sign an nli.

It would be extremely smart to sign kids with grade issues to financial aid agreements instead of NLIs so if this happens they don't count toward the 25

I believe ever since the news came out he didn't qualify its always been thought he had signed and counted. It made sense as it was quite a while after NSD before the news came out. Of course who knows if what was mentioned in the article is accurate to the T.
