'16 GA LB Ja'Quain Blakely (UT commit 8/1/15)

Sutton will be gone if he has a great year. He'll go up against some solid WR talent this year, and if he holds his own, he'll likely get a 1st round grade come 2016 NFL Draft. I've already seen multiple mock drafts that have him going in the 1st round. The talent is there, but he's got to prove he can lock down top WRs. Cooper destroyed him, and the rest of our secondary for that matter, last year. He also was playing hurt that game as well. Altogether, Sutton has 1st round talent, and if he balls out, which I think he will, he'd be stupid to pass up on the money he'd make as a 1st round selection.

The Coopers destroyed coleman, not sutton.

That's it.... Thank you, they are doing an excellent job.

Exciting times.

Butch is running this program, from an evaluation standpoint, like an NFL franchise.

Scholastics, Recruiting, Facilities, Resources, Mindset.

It all just keeps getting better and better.

Damn. It's great to be a Tennessee VOL.

Yep, and don't forget about the new virtual reality thing they are using. Apparently we are out in front of everyone with that technology as well. I need to find that article as well. It was talking a little bit about it and how other schools were trying to hire away the ones working in that department due to how much further ahead we are. I think it was RTI or FoxSports that had posted it and they had to retract it and redo it because it gave out a little to much info.

Okay...... again.....

There are WAY more two and three stars than four stars, so clearly some of them will get overlooked. The VAST majority (percentage-wise) of higher stars are better.

Again? When was the 1st time you revealed this mystery to me Debbie Downer? And what does that have to do with me providing examples of talent that Butch and Co. developed? Tell 'voice 7" sanddune said what's up.

He told me to tell you to simmah down. I was talking about in general the evaluations of Highschoolers are more accurate than not. I have faith in Butch's recruiting sunshine

Yes. That would fall under Facilities / Resources.

Word is, that Hunter Johnson was "blown away" by the technology.

Great times indeed. :)

Well cool. I was talking about something completely different. At least we now know what we were both talking about.

:) off season sucks doesn't it? We are all here getting antsy. I'm ready to run through a brick wall

I'm no college scout, but, this kid's got a hell of a offer list and it looks as if the recruiting services must have him undervalued.

Yesterday everyone was talkin up this kid's film. Saw some good speed, as well as decent cover ability but nothing else really stood out to me. From a physical standpoint, he looks like the real deal....but I can't be the only one underwhelmed with the highlight reel.

Guys I hate to tell you this but you might want to go back and watch the Bama game. Cam got burnt on a man to man 41 yard TD to Cooper on Bama's second drive. We played a high S on Cooper the whole game. If he lined up on the right side of the field we tried to jam him inside, but when he lined up as a split end on the left side of the field Cam was in press coverage on him. Kiffin tried to avoid Cam most of the game, but it didn't matter where Cooper lined up, he was getting open on every one of our DBs, including Cam. It is what it is. Nothing to be ashamed of.

It seems I remember that as well. I think that's the only play he got burned on all year though. It happens no matter how good a CB is, only takes one off play.

It's the only game I've ever seen Cam get straight up beat on the line when he was man to man pressing. I think Cam is the best CB we've had since Jason Allen, so I don't want people to think I'm bashing the guy. He's incredible, but to say it was all Coleman's fault is not true. It's also not true of the USCjr game either. One of the issues I have with Jancek is his willingness to play McNeil in the slot. Against stiff competition it usually goes bad for us. Jancek loves playing cover 1 in the nickel on 3rd and long. I guess he's trying to keep two LBs on the field so the nickel CBs can jam inside. The issue is, McNeil gets beat way to much against faster WRs. It happened multiple times last year. Hopefully, Gaulden comes in and locks down one of the nickel spots, while Kelly Jr proves himself in coverage and replaces McNeil on 3rd downs.

I saw a nice looking athlete with potential. Looks like Weatherd in terms of build and athleticism. I do agree that there isn't anything special about his highlights. Not overly physical and doesn't wrap up. He kinda slings himself around to make plays and overruns it some. I still can see why teams are interested though. Plus he just went through camps and got some nice offers. I trust this staff with their evaluations so I'm good with it.

You are correct. From what I saw McNeil should not be on field when its an obvious passing down. He gets torched most of the time. Imo he is playing out of position. Probably could have made the transition like Maybin and McDowell did to OLB. Still a bit slow at times getting to the ball or ball carrier. He was better last yr but the backend of the defense still gave up alot and needs to improve

Imo Weathred needs to play more. He has really nice speed and good tackler from what I saw

McNeil doesn't have the frame to put on the needed weight to play OLB. He was stuck at S. He's improved a lot since he's been here, but he just doesn't have the lateral quickness to keep up with faster WRs. He gives it his all, but he's a liability when he covers the slot man to man.

First off, JRM is a phenomenal talent. He had over 100 tackles as a first year starter and being a true sophomore. If you watched the games last year, he was everywhere. I expect a 120+ tackle season for him this year. I think he will be back in 2016 because of team expectations. Now, as far as Ja'Q goes, this kid is a great athlete with length, speed, very sound fundamentals, and a frame that can easily be filled out without losing any athleticism. He shows in his film the ability to cover backs and receivers. this is not a "dime a dozen" type prospect. This is a very solid pick up at worse, and potential future starter on a very talented team. Many here on VN have become spoiled in the short time CBJ has been here and will complain about any commitment that is accepted that is not a 5* (or fringe 5*). CBJ has earned our trust in recruiting, but to question this particular commit is a bit ridiculous.
