I like the way he runs he's upright and got a nice stride and he's pretty fast

When I saw that posted, I was worried CFA was decommitting because I thought we said we would only take 1 RB this year, then thought he has to be recruited for another position

I wonder if this is a conditional scholarship offer dependent on whether we still have space on or after National Signing Day. If not, the coaches must have recently seen something to make them fall in love with Byrd, given that we're still after Warrior and just revoked scholarship offers from two of our earlier commits (Marshall and Okonya).

Are late scholarship offers like this unusual? Some prospects are still going through growth spurts so I imagine some of this is unavoidable, but late offers certainly complicate things the closer it gets to NSD.

Three-star senior athlete Arkeem Byrd of Jenkins High School in Savannah, Ga., has scheduled an official visit to Tennessee for the weekend of Jan. 15.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Byrd, who now claims more than 20 scholarship offers, received an offer from the Vols on Monday night. He said Tennessee's coaches have told him they're recruiting him to play safety.
Byrd is ranked as the No. 107 prospect from the state of Georgia in the 2016 class.

Butch likes Dual Role players. He may be getting recruited for DB knowing he may get a shot at RB also. He'll play wherever he fits best when it comes down to it.

Per P Fort

On Arkeem Byrd, Tennessee offered the Savannah, Ga., and although he had a big-time year as a running back Tennessee has offered as a safety. At around 6-0, 6-1 and 190 pounds, Byrd already has good size and while most of the clips I've seen of him have been at running back, it's evident he has some really nice speed for a guy his size and on the few defensive clips I've seen it is obvious he plays physical.

As for his recruitment, he's already officially visited Colorado State and Minnesota and he told me he will for sure visit Tennessee in January. He mentioned that the offer was big because of the way Willie Martinez presented the plan for him at Tennessee. He admitted he likes running back better but said he wants to go where he can play and it didn't matter what he played at the next level. Wake Forest and Georgia Tech offered and will be in the mix and I won't be surprised if others offer as well. But, he reiterated, he will see Tennessee in January.

6'1"....190 LB's...4.4 speed... That is a heat seeking missle at safety.
A man has to be brave to cross the middle with that lurking around

Whatever it is they produced back to back top 5 classes so keep tokin'. I trust them blindly on the recruiting trail. That tree has produced enough fruit for me trust it.

Agree. Some of the best evaluators in the country are here. Look at Christmas-Giles, a lot of people scratched their head at that offer, now the kid has blown up.
