'16 GA RB Arkeem Byrd

Byrd rushed for 1,220 yards and 16 touchdowns in nine games for the Warriors this year. He is being recruited hard by Colorado State and head coach Mike Bobo, who recently visited Byrd at his home. Byrd said his top teams are Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Colorado State and Minnesota.

“Arkeem is a big, athletic kid and he has a frame that can hold 215-220 pounds,” Jenkins head coach Tim Adams said. “Some see him as a defensive back, and others like him as a running back. We’re getting four to six calls a day about Arkeem, and I joked with him that I’ve become his event scheduler. But that’s a good problem to have."

If there's one thing this staff does better than anyone, it's evaluate before other teams

Supposedly the Bobs and Willie think this kid has all conference potential at Saftey. I haven't seen him even play Saftey in his highlights but that's why they get paid the big bucks and I sit here and obsess over it

It looks like he has the size and athleticism.

Clemson is trying to get in on this kid now!

According to Clemson Rivals site, Byrd definitely has interest in Clemson. But the DB coach has to get Dabo's approval first. Apparently, he hasn't watched Byrd's film yet.

We have excellent talent evaluation. Unfortunately that means nothing if you can't reel them in.

What in the world is the deal now. As soon as we offer, every school in the nation offers.

It's big boy recruiting. Other coaches will take a look at a player if a big time school offers. Butch is gonna start fighting tougher battles the more players he and his staff find. He's just got to keep selling Tennessee.

It means everything if you can reel them in. NSD isn't here yet. Let's wait to see what happens.

BTW, this young man has potential, but he needs work. Warrior has a much better upside. Of the handful of players we need to land(IMO), Warrior is one of them.

There is zero film to the public of Byrd playing safety. How can you know who has more upside?

I'm sorry, are we not allowed to have opinions? If you want to know the reason for my opinion, I'll explain, but no need to get resentful.

Byrd has not worked as hard at safety as he has at RB. He's stated his love is RB. He'll need a lot more refinement and work than Warrior, who has worked at developing himself as a safety. He has a longer way to go than Warrior does to be game ready, at least imo. For us, as a program, Warrior has the better upside because he's more likely to see the field sooner.

I wasn't being resentful. It was a legitimate question. Of course you're allowed to have an opinion, that's the entire point of the board. Your points on Byrd are assumptions. I agree that Warrior is the better player, but the fact that he can play sooner doesn't give him a higher potential.

Upside doesn't equate only to potential. We get these young men for 4 seasons(5 with a RS). The sooner they can contribute on the field, the better it is for us. Warrior offers more production value. Also, potential has to be developed. As good as the staff is at recruiting, I'm still not sold on them developing players to their fullest.

Martinez, Strip, and Gillespie are good developers imo. Martinez has the track record to back it up as well with his NFL products. The rest of the staff, like you said, is questionable at developing.

Cancelled his OV per Fortenberry

Byrd previously had official visits planned to Tennessee on January 15th and Georgia Tech on January 29th, but he is not sure about where he'll be taking official visits now. Louisville is a potential destination.

"I'm going over it with my family, and we're deciding on the dates and what not," Byrd explained. "It's kind of all up in the air right now. I won't be visiting Tennessee on the 15th. I'm figuring it out with my family, so I don't want to put anything out there."

So when we offer or receive a visit from a lower ranked player, people around here think it means we have recieved bad news on one of our top priorities. With that logic, I'll go ahead and say that Warrior is a Vol lock. GBFO!

Maybe Warrior and Kamara. I thought Byrd might be a great last minute take if AK left.
