I think fact that debord moving us to more or a Ohio state power game will help with his style of running. Just my opinion. I also think that's why you see uga and ut offer more of the same backs
We're not switching to the wishbone but there's going to be more emphasis on power running IMO...best prepare.
Many times in the past Butch has referenced Urban Meyer as an influence on him. Butch's philosophy is rooted in the old "west coast offense", albeit from the shotgun with zone read elements. The WCO is often thought of as pass first, but it is actually a balance of run and pass with a power-oriented run game... exactly what Urbs has been doing a long time.
I think Debord is just the guy to refine this part of the offense without changing too much else. RB's are going to LOVE playing in that and would be smart to hop on the train early.
Those changes in the rushing game sound great to me but has there been any kind of official statement or report along those lines?
i don't adding 'power' to our running game is going to suddenly get us more 20-30 yards. there aren't that many 20-30 yard runs inside the tackle box even by power teams. power to me means being able to consistently run it forward and pick up first downs, not hit home runs.
With the capabilities of our running backs, you pound away at a defense enough and they tire and eventually miss an assignment...that's when you break a long one...in past years we'd let the opposing D off the hook with those jet sweeps...those are supposed to be changeups...we used them too frequently IMO.
