Four standing out, two pushing for Top247 RB Elijah Holyfield
Powders Springs, Ga. -- Top247 running back Elijah Holyfield (College Park, Ga./Woodward Academy) is closing in on 30 offers to date, and while things are still wide open, he admits four schools are sticking out at the moment.
"I am really liking Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, and Michigan right now," Holyfield told 247Sports on Sunday.
Florida offered Holyfield last month, and that scholarship has the No. 14 running back int the 247Sports Composite excited.
"I got to talk to coach Skip (Tim Skipper), and I talked to Coach Jim McElwain on twitter a bit," Holyfield said. "They seem pretty cool. I really want to get to meet them and see how they coach. Maybe get to a spring practice."
Holyfield says two programs are making the biggest push at the moment.
"I would say Tennessee and Auburn are on me the most right now," Holyfield said. "I talk to at least one of their coaches every day. They are on me pretty tight."
Tennessee has one of the first schools to offer the 5-foot-11, 200-pound tailback. The Volunteer coaching staff have made a great impression on Holyfield - both in person and on the phone.
"I really enjoy Coach Robert Gillespie," Holyfield said. "He is pretty cool - I talk to him at least weekly on the phone. I like the way he coaches - got to see him at camp one time. I really want to get up there and see spring practice."
As for Auburn, Holyfield is intrigued by their tradition.
"Just their running backs," Holyfield said. They always have great running backs, and I would love to be one of those great running backs."
Michigan has hit the ground running with the new coaching staff, and the four-star running back likes what the Wolverines have planned on offense.
"I got to talk to Coach Tyrone Wheatley," Holyfield said. "He was able to come down before the dead period. I got to talk to coach Harbaugh on the phone about a week ago too. I don't know when exactly I am going, but I am going to get up there soon. I think I will like the new offense they run - downhill, run the ball. That is the type of offense I think I can see myself in."
