'16 KS DT Alexis Johnson (UT commit 6/16/15)

Seen the link posted earlier, thought I'd add the content before it goes away:

Tennessee adds a huge commitment in Fort Scott C.C. defensive tackle Alexis Johnson, one of the best in the country at his position...

Tennessee has possibly picked up the biggest junior college commitment of the cycle in defensive tackle Alexis Johnson of Fort Scott C.C. He's listed as a three-star prospect currently, but he's someone that could take a gigantic leap as the season approaches.

He's a massive 6-foot-4, 300 pound run-stuffing, space-eating defensive tackle with a ton of explosion and power. Johnson also has the elite athleticism to play all three downs, being very effective at rushing the passer as well.

The only areas for improvement and concern would be he tends to play too high at times, but a little technique work in his first few months in Knoxville should have him ready to compete for a starting spot immediately.

Don't see a big reason to take a JUCO DT next year. We will have so much depth there. But Coach Jones and Strippling are paid the big bucks (well at least one of them) to make those decisions.

Btw, I do not know what kind of salary you make but Coach Strippling is paid big bucks in my book :)

Who is Aubrey Franklin? I couldn't find him on internet search. Does OP mean Aubrayo Franklin out of Johnson City Science Hill? If he did mistake the names, did Franklin go JUCO before UT? Again, a cursarory search did not show JUCO for Aubrayo Franklin. A good UT player who showed more talent in the NFL and now shows promise as a coach.

Best of luck Aubrayo from a native Tri Citian (sp). Virginia High, class of 87.

I watched him play at Science Hill. I live in Johnson City and I don't believe he went to Juco, but I might be wrong.

Remember when we were drooling over Rolando Melacon and Edwin Herbert?

Now we land 4 and 5 star DT's annually.

This is what it feels like to build a national powerhouse!

Franklin played two years of JUCO before coming to UT. Didn't he play MLB at Science Hill (at about 240 lbs.)? I can't remember what JUCO

EDIT: I posted this before reading back that he committed. boomage!

Seriously, what is the University of Tennessee connection to Kansas Jucos? We need a contest to rename Kansas. Something like "Knoxville West".

So I just noticed hes from Jonesboro, GA. Isn't that where Sutton is from? Are they former teammates?
From what I've heard Alexis played at Mt. Zion HS in Jonesboro, GA. His senior year he played against Cam Sutton and his HS team Jonesboro HS. I'm assuming they know (or at least know of) each other.

With our Youth/Skillset at DT, why are we recruiting Juco's at this position?

Tuttle - Freshman
McKenzie - Freshman
Mixon - Sophomore
Vickers - Sophomore
Picqou - Freshman

So we don't have to rely on 3 freshman and 2 formerly undersized and converted DE's?

Also he appears to be extremely talented which can't hurt.

Because in the SEC depth is everything. Especially on the DL. You cannot have too many quality big nastys.
