When was the last time a LA player has worked out for us?

It's been a while, but here are a few. There's a lot of talent in LA. It's dominated by LSU and Bama though.

UT needs to stick with instate, Carolina's, Virginia, GA, and cherry pick a few here and there.

Prentiss Wagner
Herman Lathers
Janzen Jackson- for 2 years if that even counts

Wide receiver Mykel Jones wasn't on campus but has Tennessee in his top list of schools and wants to make a stop in Knoxville to check out what all the talk is about.

Those top choices make up a top five of Tennessee, USC, LSU, Alabama and Texas and Jones lists the Vols in the group because of his relationship with the coaches and the bright outlook for the future of the program.

"Obviously, coach Z has a lot to do with it and so does coach Jones," Jones said. "I feel like they are rebuilding the program and they could use playmakers and they are also playing a lot of young guys. It's not a bad place as far as the education is, too."

Tennessee has become a major player with Mykel Jones. He said Tennessee, Alabama and USC are all strong jn the mix. Specifically stated the Vols are in his top "two or three."

Vol.
"It was great. Me and coach Z never stopped talking. We always kept in touch and seeing him is always great. He always explains himself in detail and he really has loved me since my freshman year so there's always love around Tennessee."

"Tennessee is family oriented and very traditional and if I can be a part of that it would be really big," Jones said. "And for me to come in and fit into the offense and scheme at receiver, inside and out, would be great.

"Just the love and the tradition here and them being really up front and telling me where I would play and how I could right in and be an effective player for the team really helped them today."

Looking back on his visit, the Rivals100 standout said the Vols have clearly established themselves as a team he's strongly considering.

"They really helped themselves a lot," Jones said. "I feel like they are top two, top three choices right now. I really like Tennessee."

Jones has no firm timetable for a decision, instead he plans on making a decision when the timing feels right.

"A decision just all depends," Jones started. "From today, I really like Tennessee. My decision, it just depends. If I have to wait until signing day I will and if I don't, I won't."

Almost sounds like he wanted to commit and got put on hold, and sounds like he is willing to wait for a spot in order to be a Vol.

Since it doesn't look like we are gettin Hardman, I would love to have this guy and Swain as our slot receivers.

Give me Davis and one of Victor or Corely on the outside and we have ourselves a great WR class.

We are in on so many top receivers. It is going to be interesting to see who we end up with come NSD. One thing is for sure, it will be a phenomenal group. With what we could add this year and how the '17 class is looking, WRU is about to be non-debatable.

Also not very surprising considering LA players pretty much never work out for us

Rivals and 247 are saying he named a leader but scout is saying something else:

“The kid has a top three, Alabama, Tennessee and LSU’s probably third. That’s the correct statement,” Ed Jones, Mykel’s father, said Monday evening.

Following the trip, as the Jones’ declined to name a leader despite other reports, the recruiting portion of the summer will be concluded. It’s all about Patterson High School going forward, though official visits to each program are likely before a commitment is made.
“We haven’t sat down as a family and talked about it,” Jones said. “My wife wasn’t with us this time, but she has been to Alabama in the past. We’re going to have to sit back down and talk about it as a family. We’ve got to talk about his graduating early, which he has the option of doing, that would speed up the process. We just don’t know at this time.
“But a decision won’t be in the immediate future, I can tell you that. The list is down to three, it’s a finalists list. Alabama is in very good position right now.”

Scout may have had a delay in posting article. 247 and rivals had interviews with jones from OCD where he named top 3 then the next day he talks to Bama rivals and names them leader.
