The amount of top notch talent this staff is targeting is refreshing and awesome!

It's between our game and the lsu/bama game. If he chooses our game he must really be interested.

Ok, it says 270lbs at top of thread, but Rivals has him at 251 and 247 at 262. Regardless, isn't a 4.96 40 time slow? I know 40 times are not everything, but it usually does show explosiveness which at any position is important imo.(even DT if he projects as DT)

Simmons, as of last month, was suppose to go to the Alabama-LSU game. Sources close to his recruitment, as of late Monday evening, have said that he will be at the Tennessee-USCe game. Although, 247 says he may be a bit of a longshot with Mississippi St, Ole Miss, and Alabama the favorites. Making it in this weekend could go a long way in helping Tennessee. The Vols have been in contact with Simmons in recent months, and while he has yet to visit Tennessee, sources said he likes what he has heard from running backs coach Robert Gillespie and defensive line coach Steve Stripling.
Simmons, a four-star prospect who’s ranked the nation’s No. 36 overall player in the 247Sports Composite, told 247Sports last month that Ole Miss and Alabama were at the top of his list, with Mississippi State, Auburn and Tennessee also in the mix. The Vols quietly have worked their way into the picture with him in recent months, and assuming he follows through on his plan to travel to Tennessee, this weekend could give UT a chance to become even more of a factor in his recruitment.

If we can pull the #1 recruit in Mississippi at a premium position like DE then I'll be blown away by the recruiting ability of this staff. Players like this are what seperate Alabama and LSU from the rest of the SEC.

We need this kid and Derrick Brown to add to our awesome d-line haul from last year.

"They started recruiting me last year and I've always watched them on TV. So, I'm taking my visit this weekend to see what they have to offer," Simmons said. "I just want to go see what they're about. I don't know too much about so that's the reason I'm going out there to see what they have to offer." "I'm looking forward to seeing the atmosphere in the game, the coaching style and what they're like," Simmons said.

"Coach Strip is a good coach and a great guy. He has some guys in the league," Simmons said. "He just keeps telling me that Tennessee is really nice. "I haven't know him for a long time because we just started communicating but I feel like he's a straight-up guy. That's why this weekend I'm going to try and build a better relationship."

And that relationship is important if Tennessee wants to pull the talented defensive lineman out of the Magnolia State as that is one of the three things he's looking for the most in a program at the next level. "The relationship with the coaches, the atmosphere and then what can they offer after football. What do they offer for me after school," Simmons said.

Besides Tennessee, Simmons said he's considering home state schools Ole Miss and Mississippi State, along with nearby Alabama as well as Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss. "I'm not worried about it too much right now," Simmons said. "It's probably going to go all the way to signing day anyways."

Per Hubbs

Jeffery Simmons - This is the most surprising visitor on the list and as late as Thursday night we were receiving intel that Alabama was trying to host him in Tuscaloosa this weekend for an unofficial visit. That's something to watch. But, Alabama likes where it is with Simmons from several we've talked to. Ole Miss and Mississippi State can't be counted out, either.

Great news. Just seems like we don't land kids like this. We've been close recently with guys like Carl Lawson etc but it would be great to get over the hump and start pulling guys like this with no legacy connections, JMO.

Phillips and Barnett were both in state. McKenzie is a legacy. Tuttle is good, but I think he was referring to out of state, non legacy freaks. Tuttle is solid but not a Carl Lawson/Josh Sweat edge rusher

Shy Tuttle and Preston Williams say hi. Both were out of state 5 stars with no connections.

I get what you're saying but other than Alabama or Ohio State under Meyer, you don't see many 5 stars going far away from home. Most elite prospects go to the best school nearby.
