There's a bit more to the story than him just punching a woman on the ground.
I have heard some of the bit more, but the last part of your sentence still says it all. He punched a woman on the ground. That, to me, is a violent, unnecessary, character-indicative act and I see no possible excuse for it. I realize that I am judging him but punching a woman on the ground appears very bad to me, regardless of the circumstances.
