'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

Wow recruiting is a crazy thing.

Earlier this year it seemed we were in a good place with Dickerson. Then around the end of summer/beginning of the season, he didn't really want much to do with us. Now, we are likely his leader. Weird.

It was right around the time we started getting heavily involved with EJ Price...think Dickerson was #2 on the OT board behind Price, with Tatum likely #3...add to that Frank Beamer announcing his departure and you've got a recipe for us being his leader.

Is Dickerson projected as a tackle?

Any indication of who he's visiting in D.C.? I've been hoping for a while now that we might still be a factor with Jauan Williams. He named us as one of his favorites (behind Bama IIRC) back in the summer but has been very quiet since then. We need another true OT IMO, and he would fit the bill quite nicely.

An OL haul of Ryan Johnson, Dickerson, and Williams would be very good for the size of our class. When you add in Zach Stewart, who was highly underrated, that's bordering on filthy.

Don Mahoney was in North Carolina Tuesday night meeting with Landon Dickerson and Dickerson continues to be a priority for this staff. But, he was a popular man as several staffs were in the home with Dickerson. Dickerson will see Alabama in January as well as Georgia on official visits.

We're not going to end up getting him and we are going to be up **** creek with OL recruiting come January. Starting to get worried about that group this cycle. There are very few names even on the board including lower tier guys.

Butch Jones!

I wasnt that worried until I read about the Alabama visit. Saban always gets top tier OL. Hopefully, Butch can reel him in.

I'm not sure why you say this. We have Ryan Johnson committed and he seems solid. I believe Zach Stewart from the '15 class who delayed his enrollment due to his mother's passing will be here in January or in the summer. Those are two very solid guys. Plus, I think Butch and Mahoney are after more big time players than just Dickerson. Personally, I think we pull Dickerson and a Johnson, Stewart (for all intents and purposes), and Dickerson class is really good. Even without Dickerson and a replacement OL (who I would imagine would be pretty good anyway, it is still a pretty decent OL class. Sure, I would love to get Dickerson and another very high level OL recruit but I am pretty sure our OL class will be upper level SEC quality either way.

We also have two DL line recruits in Moseley and Roberson who are now OL in addition to the great OL class from last year who some were Redshirts and two in Jones and Hall who already played a ton. We are good with this class and numbers and some of these kids see the above that I mentioned as well. The OL is in its best shape in years.

Just my 2¢, but I think we really need another true OT, and more specifically, we need a LT. I see R. Johnson as a RT and Dickerson as an elite guard who has the ability to play tackle reasonably well in a pinch. For next year we basically have Drew Richmond at LT and very little else. If he gets hurt or transfers or doesn't work out for whatever reason, we're right back to being forced to either play guys out of position (maybe Hall or Kendrick who are better suited for RT or OG IMO) or guys who just don't have the talent to thrive in the SEC (Blair). Again, JMO, but for the purposes of depth, I think it's very important that we get a quality LT in this class.

And BTW, I think Kellen Diesch was a more important recruit than many realized for just that reason. I'm hoping we can still sway someone like Tatum or Williams or capitalize on the coaching carousel fallout to grab someone who may not even be on the radar right now because LT is probably the most tenuous position on our roster in terms of depth. JMO.
