'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

Just my 2¢, but I think we really need another true OT, and more specifically, we need a LT. I see R. Johnson as a RT and Dickerson as an elite guard who has the ability to play tackle reasonably well in a pinch. For next year we basically have Drew Richmond at LT and very little else. If he gets hurt or transfers or doesn't work out for whatever reason, we're right back to being forced to either play guys out of position (maybe Hall or Kendrick who are better suited for RT or OG IMO) or guys who just don't have the talent to thrive in the SEC (Blair). Again, JMO, but for the purposes of depth, I think it's very important that we get a quality LT in this class.

And BTW, I think Kellen Diesch was a more important recruit than many realized for just that reason. I'm hoping we can still sway someone like Tatum or Williams or capitalize on the coaching carousel fallout to grab someone who may not even be on the radar right now because LT is probably the most tenuous position on our roster in terms of depth. JMO.

Agee we need a good OT. I think the staff knows and is working on that.

I believe Hall has more than 'fill-in' potential at LT. Hall could be a very good LT if Richmond is injured or does not progress.

Maybe so. I hope you're right. The coaches should certainly have a feel for that by now and be able to plan accordingly. I'm just obsessing over recruiting like I do every year.

We're not going to end up getting him and we are going to be up **** creek with OL recruiting come January. Starting to get worried about that group this cycle. There are very few names even on the board including lower tier guys.

This train of thought is why I'm hoping we can manage to keep Blair and Kendrick around for 2016. If we miss out on Dickerson and can't keep those guys, our OT depth will be far from ideal next season. I'd rather not see us have to play Coleman Thomas at OT out of necessity again.

I'm not sure why you say this. We have Ryan Johnson committed and he seems solid. I believe Zach Stewart from the '15 class who delayed his enrollment due to his mother's passing will be here in January or in the summer. Those are two very solid guys. Plus, I think Butch and Mahoney are after more big time players than just Dickerson. Personally, I think we pull Dickerson and a Johnson, Stewart (for all intents and purposes), and Dickerson class is really good. Even without Dickerson and a replacement OL (who I would imagine would be pretty good anyway, it is still a pretty decent OL class. Sure, I would love to get Dickerson and another very high level OL recruit but I am pretty sure our OL class will be upper level SEC quality either way.

Who else is being recruited on the OL besides Dickerson? I don't see many names. Maybe we are and I just haven't seen any talk about them.

Tatum is the another guy we're in on. It seems like the ship has sailed on E.J. Price. I've not heard anything on him in a while.

I guess I'm spoiled with DL recruiting but I really want to see us stock up on really good/elite talent for the OL like we've done there.

We'll be alright on the OL. We have a lot of young guys returning and have Johnson and Stewart coming in. I would like to land one or two more though. I really wish we would have landed Bryce Matthews.

Things will likely change in January leading up to NSD. Especially if we win our bowl game. Butch and co. will be able to hit the recruiting trail with a hell of a pitch. We landed Richmond, Phillips, and Martin by finishing strong last year, and I think we can do the same this year.

I think Tatum and there are another few names (I cannot remember who they are right now) that are being thrown around as potential fallback options. I agree with you that having OL depth like we are developing DL depth is essential to UT's success down the road. I think Richmond and Hall could both play LT and maybe Kendrick in a pinch. If we can land a cornerstone LT in this class, sign him. If not, we certainly need one in next year's class. But, I think our OL depth is finally coming around and I am pretty sure Butch won't let there be a huge hole in the OL recruiting.

Agreed. I think we close with Warrior, Jones, and Clark. I feel pretty good about those three right now. That would be a strong finish. How many spots do we have left?

You guys do realize the typically in high school, DL are more advance players and athletic players. That is why you see more recruited who then will later switch to the OL. This doesn't mean it applies to every high school OL. It is just overall typical in general.

A strong finish would be Hardman, Brown, and Warrior. I think we have a good chance at this given what's happened at Georgia and the potential for a massive bowl win.

The OL needs at least 3-4 in the 2016 class. Johnson, Dickerson, and 2 OTs would be ideal. Tatum and Williams would be great additions. We need a full complement to go along with Stewart for solid depth. With us only taking 22 in this class, I know 4 OL sounds like a lot, but we need the talent and depth.

It's been a while since we could say something like this! Remember the days when we couldn't buy a strong d-lineman?

New article on 247. I don't have a subscription, but the headline says there are three schools standing out. I'm guessing it's FSU and Auburn out in front with us in third based on the interest levels reported on his profile.

Another example of Battered Vol Syndrome.

After the Richmond recruitment, I think Butch can pull anyone he damn well pleases. :salute:

Saban usually has no problems getting the top tier OL. I think Butch is a great recruiter, but I cannot put him on Sabans level yet. And no Butch cannot get anyone he pleases. No coach can :)

I would put Butch up against anyone recruiting. He's elite.

He didn't get Richmond last year and there was talk about him visiting Tuscaloosa before us which never happened.

Considering how bad we've been and how great Butch's first 2 classes have been, I'd out him up there against any coach in the country when it comes to recruiting.

FSU, Auburn and TN. No order but it sounded like TN has momentum as he really likes our future promise. The fisher to LSU talk hurt FSU a bit but he feels better. if we can get him to official I think he is ours

Is it just your gut feeling we do not get him, or do you have a source? Just took your post as being scared because Alabama is in the picture basically.
