so, did Kendall want to de-commit on his own first, or did
Butch know he could get Jarrett and then ask Kendall to de-commit?

just curious on how it went down

Think Kendall saw that CBJ was still recruiting Guarantano, so he decided to decommit.

I think jones and debord liked this kid better. I think kendall was bajakans favorite and therefore when he left they kind of told him to look around.

I also have a suspicion this is true but instead of telling him to look around, they amped up the recruitment of Jarrett, which kind of forced his hand

Kendall kept taking visits all the while JG gained more and more interest in us. Kendall was told as long as he was looking, we would keep looking which began the process of him decommitting and us going all in on JG.

Long story short, Butch Stones gets his guy. Nothing personal against Rutgers, but we did basically hand them their best recruit last year.

Jarrett had already visited UT 3 times before Kendall decommitted. He and his dad love Jones and UT, but with Kendall committed there was no chance of him coming to UT. Butch told Jarrett he's the #1 preference at QB for 2016 (and the only one they'll sign). When Jarrett learned this, he all but told Butch he'd commit if that were the case. Tennessee and Kendall parted ways, both because UT now knew it could land Jarrett and Kendall's primary recruiter had just left (Bajakian). So, it made sense for both parties.

Now, whether you want to believe it or not, Jarrett is likely already silently committed to UT. The OSU visit is meant to solidify that decision and also pay respect to Urban and his primary recruiter at OSU. But, just as Kendall coming to UT meant Jarrett would not, he knows he will not commit to a school with 6 scholarship QBs. But just like his previous visits to UT, he does really like OSU and the coaches there.

JG is all Vol. Rutgers was only a serious option when his two favorites were set to have a combined 11 scholarship QBs next season. Tennessee can now sell him as being their only QB take for 2016, and a competition that will include no proven QB behind Dobbs.

If you believe Rutgers has a chance at this point, I've got a steal for you on a sack of magic beans.
