'16 NJ RB Kareem Walker

Totally agree. I thought we had to have a big name to compensate for all the damage done to the program by Fulmer, Kiffin, and Dooley. I could not see how this guy who had never competed on this level could turn recruiting into a positive. I was Gruden or bust.

Jones has performed beyond my expectations on the recruiting trail. I think he is doing a relative good job in development. He has corrected our APR problems.

Now can he win? He has made some real errors on the field in his first two years. Vanderbilt in year one and Florida in year two showed his vulnerabilities. If he can learn from that he might create a dynasty that will last for decades.
I dont post that often but I want to put in my 2 cents. No team will ever have a coach that never gets "out coached". Butch has made mistakes, but there's defenitely been games where you could say even Saban has been out coached.

In the college level if you can get a coach that recruits at a high level and gets his team to play hard more often than not they're gonna come out on top, regardless of X's and O's. I don't think we'll ever get back to the 90's and early 00's level of dominance but that has more to do with how college football is now than butchs ability as a coach

Why?

I'm no Nationdom but I believe we can. We're looking at several consecutive years of top 5 recruiting and with the growth of instate talent, I see no reason why consistent top 10 and a shot at a NC every three years is not only possible but likely on this current trajectory.

I agree. If recruiting keeps going as is and Butch can coach just a bit and doesn't get complacent (which I don't think he ever would) I don't see why we couldn't see that same success.

Good post. I feel better about the being out coached part now that Jake is gone. Hopefully Butch has learned from the past two seasons and grows as well. DeBord shores up Mahoney and knows what Butch wants out of the offense.

I agree, I have seen all of the greats get out coached at times. It just happens less with them and they are able to keep a high level of talent on their roster to compensate better for their mistakes.

How college football is now? Alabama, USC, Oregon, Ohio St all have had dominant runs over the past decade, so I have to disagree that it is not about coaching if not at top of conference more than not imo. I do think their is a little more competition, but if recruiting at high level, that just puts more importance on coaching. ( I do agree that every coach gets out coached from time to time btw)

You'll probably land Walker anyway but don't delude yourself into thinking your program is aboveboard...your team under Urban has and will win championships because he piles up masses of talent. Two straight seasons of being dishonest with 5 star running backs is worth the sliminess Urb is willing to wade into...chest deep. Don't get greedy and expect us to buy that he's classy. He is going to lie and cheat and ooze you championships and you'll name a school building after him...prolly something to do with cardiology.

FWIW, I never once claimed that any program was above board, including OSU. I also never claimed Urb was "classy". Anyone who kids themselves in big-time CFB that their program is "clean" is fooling themselves.

Also, if in fact urb is being dishonest with consecutive 5* RB's, rest assured it will eventually catch up with him.

The problem is, many OSU fans act like Urban is above reproach. OSU fans can have their parade all they want, but simple facts are, most OSU fanatics are trying to sale a product that no TN fan is willing to buy.

OSU will always obtain top talent. They also play 3-4 good teams all year. The overinflation by the media of the SEC, as a whole, does not change the argument that the SEC is the deepest conference in college football, and quite frankly, it's not even arguable at the moment. OSU fans can boast all they want, but down inside we all know OSU coasts through the Big 10 like a paper boat going down hill on a rainy afternoon. OSU beat a broken down Bama team and an Oregon team that runs an offense that seams to never prevail when all the marbles are up for grabs. Congrats...:bump3: Facts are, OSU has a lier for a coach, and one, who seams to have found the best beta blockers on the market to recover from such a cardiovascular disorder that he obtained while at FL. The media may not want to sale it, but we all know the true colors that Little Urbby shines...

Of course the SEC is the deepest conference and OSU's path is easier than an SEC west teams' to the playoffs. That is not OSU's fault. (FWIW OSU beat 4 teams last year with 11 wins. That has allegedly NEVER been done before)

Also, please save the "broken-down Bama" and "Oregon system" crap. EVERYONE had OSU losing to both of them by a lot. You realize OSU was starting their 3rd string QB in his 2nd game right (I am sure you didn't hear that enough right)?

"Broken down bama" :lolabove: classic. Was it 09' Bama? No. But "broken down Bama" won the SEC and was ahead 21-6 early in the game.

Oregon was out-athleted, out-coached, and out-classed. OSU beat them like a drum like no other team has during their recent successful run.

Oh, and "deep down inside" OSU just won the Natty. I'm good with that.

I agree with you about a lot of OSU fans drinking the "kool aid". All fanbases have delusional fans. All of them.

I DESPISE and LOATHE everything about OSU.

That being said, their season last year is the stuff movies are made of. I always hate on them and never show respect, especially after they lost to VT. What they did after that was a miracle. The worst thing that could happen to a team is losing their starting QB IMO, and that happened to them twice.

Props for that, for real.

Now I'm back to hating them so UCKF OHIO ST.

this is what Georgia does and they are "constantly underachieving" we have some crazy expectations on this site.

Your right it is. But Saban didn't have a lot of tape to find the weaknesses in their third QB since they played vanilla against Wisconsin. It's why he stomped them imo

Saban doesn't do well against 3rd string QBs. :)

I'm no Nationdom but I believe we can. We're looking at several consecutive years of top 10 recruiting and with the growth of instate talent, I see no reason why consistent top 15 and a shot at a NC every ~7 years is not only possible but likely on this current trajectory.

FYP. Much more reasonable now.

Only if you assume top 10 recruiting classes instead of top 5. I stand by my formula.

I would be happy with a top 10 class, but I would also be fine with a top 20 class b/c alot of the players we're picking up have great offer list, but are underrated on the recruiting services.

Well i sure believe do believe if he comes to UT visit wit JG on a visit that he may change his mind about going to osu ,but osu will be fine without him they have another back that is a 5star on a few recruitinv services, letz all hope that his visit to UT blows his mind.
