The bright orange Starter jacket wasn't just some cool gear to the young Niehaus. With the old-school 'VOLS' written out on the front he knew exactly what it was because of his upbringing. "I knew what it was," Niehaus told Volquest.com Wednesday. "My mom was a big Tennessee fan and my grandparents were, too and they got the jacket for me for my third birthday. I had it for two years after that. But, my family are diehard Tennessee fans on my mom's side."
"I've always had a great respect for the program and I always liked them when I was growing up," Niehaus said. "That's something I've really thought about. I didn't really follow Tennessee that much, but I always admired the program and Tennessee football in general. I always said to myself it would be awesome to play there."
"I didn't get to see a lot about the program but I've heard a lot about the program and a lot about Tennessee, and not just the football program," Niehaus said. "From my family to some people that work with my aunt and one of my aunt's coworkers has a criminal justice degrees and that's what I want and it sounds good."
"The future for the football program at Tennessee is nothing but bright," Niehaus said. "Under Butch Jones the program is only getting better. They are one of the teams coming up and are going to be really good moving forward. "But, it's not just about him as a coach. When we were there for our visit he wasn't all about football and he interacted with his and talked with us like we've known each other for years."
