Actually, not really. But I'll be the first to tell you that it is somewhat confusing, due to it having to be on a case-by-case basis. I can only imagine how confusing it is to people that only half follow Clemson recruiting.
An example.......Lane (does he still have that tiger paw tattoo? lol) visiting you guys is not seen or responded to in the same way that Ray Ray/Cain visiting Florida was last year, as it shouldn't have been. Ray Ray's dad is instrumental in the Tampa area for recruiting and wanted to get some of the other guy's foot in the door with the new coaching staff at one of the two flagship state programs. Ray Ray and Cain were the bait. They communicated as much with our coaching staff, and the unofficial visit took place as described, no harm no foul. Lane on the other hand lied to our coaching staff about even taking the visit. In Clemson's opinion, he had character questions anyways for lying about some weed charge he got in HS, so this was the final straw. In that case, Clemson actually pulled his offer. It would be stupid to have an iron clad policy, b/c as described not all visits/situations are created equal.
Another thing worth mentioning is that unofficials are not viewed the same as officials. In this particular case, Feaster would have to decommit before taking an OV to Tenn, as the #15 player in the nation (Shaq Smith) had to last week. It's not ideal, but Clemson has to protect their interests, and I understand it. I don't think we've had anybody flip on NSD under Dabo, so his policy is tough to argue. Lots of Clemson fans freak out when it happens, but eventually realize there was a good chance they weren't coming here anyways, and better to know in advance so that you can plan accordingly. We have another situation brewing with a WR, Powell, out of NC. He's mentioned taking OV's but doesn't have anything concrete, as Smith did. Powell has spoken with Dabo about it, and he's got a decision to make (the kid, not Dabo, as again Dabo's policy is pretty clear).
So, Deshaun made an official to Auburn...is that correct? If so, people grounded in reality know that you treat your star recruits differently. Just like Jimmy Johnson cut Curvin Richards for a fumble but looked the other way when Michael Irvin showed up late for a team meeting. Difference? When you let it be known that you have this policy...and quietly revel in it, it makes you look extra schmucky when you have to diverge from said policy. :hi:
