'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

Been awhile since I’ve heard this cats name. Big ole dude now

No telling how big this guy will get. Prob a TE (I know lol) if he stays on offense but im hoping for a freak defensive terror. Its so much easier to win when the other team cant score. VOLS BUTCH!

Went back and found my first comment from may 2013. I was like ah cool until the end there, then I was like.... ugh

Tennessee Vols football recruiting: Juco DL Darel Middleton commits to Tennessee again

Middleton, who now lists himself at 6 feet 7 inches and 290 pounds on his Twitter account, was rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports coming out of Oak Ridge (Tenn.) High School in the 2016 class. He enrolled at East Mississippi in January after sitting out last year.
Middleton was a 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end and defensive end prospect at Oak Ridge, where he was committed to Arizona State for less than two months in 2015 before signing with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Miss., in 2016. But his first year at Mississippi Gulf Coast didn't go as planned, and he left the school and didn't play football last year.

At least a handful of major college programs already have expressed interest in Middleton since he enrolled at East Mississippi, simply based on his size and impressive athleticism.

East Mississippi coach Buddy Stephens recently told 247Sports’ Gene Swindoll that he expected Middleton’s recruitment to pick up once college coaches got a chance to see him play during the upcoming spring evaluation period.

"He is really fast for his size,” Stephens told Swindoll. "He runs with our linebackers. When college coaches come through, they will like what they see from him."

Sounds like he sat out last year so may have 3 years to play.

I will go ahead and say it. There were rumors of some pretty big attitude problems when he was at Powell. I am not sure if those got any better at Oak Ridge. I am a little concerned, but I do trust our staff until they give me reason not to. Maybe the rumors were blown out of proportion, or if they were not, maybe he has matured.

That's been several years now and not being able to enroll in a D1 school and having to go to Scuba Missippi has to be a pretty humbling experience.

I think Pruitt might be a little better at managing egos than previous coaches we have seen here.

how many years ago was that?

Interesting surprise to wake up to.

'18 guy or '19? 2 or three years to play? What position will be be playing here? So many questions.....

Glad we got a local kid. Didn't follow recruiting that closely back then so idk his backstory.

Middleton was one of the top players in the state a few years back. This isnt desperation at all. Guy can play.

The point is when you rely heavily on Juco and grad transfer your roster is not good. Pruitt also said when he started that the team was very small. All the guys he brought in from the Juco route are big dudes..

Might be record for UT for Juco's and Grad Transfers...Tell me that the roster is a steaming pile overall

Seriously, you don't take guys like this unless you think you can win now. If the roster was so bad, you recruit freshmen to develop. These are just filling holes for a year or two.

6’7 290 sounds like a perfect 3-4 end

No idea what we’re getting here but more big bodies is never a bad thing

I do think coaches like Pruitt, Rocker and Rumph have a much better track record dealing with high risk high reward prospects than our previous couple of coaches. They have all been coaching at a very high level for a long time. We'll see I guess. I obviously don't know the reason he took last year off but it seems like he did it to focus on academics and get his life back on track for a return to football. If so, that at least shows a desire to mature. And it was probably a very humbling experience. Or it could backfire. Kid has a ton of potential though so the risk may be worth it.

That’s a lot of holes to fill. QB, RB, TE, DT, DE, LB, CB are the Jucos/Grad transfers we’ve taken.
