'16 TN Cornerback Donte Vaughn

I know Donte follows this thread, so it might be better if people wouldn't refer to him as a "backup plan." As I stated earlier, LSU is on him hard, so our coaching staff has their work cut out for them. I'm not saying that the opinions of people in this thread could sway him one way or the other, but we need all the positive vibes we can get on this one. JMO.

Advice to all recruits reading Volnation: read Emanuel Moseley thread, compare VN opinions to on-field results, disregard all future VN opinions, profit. Pretty sure Chris Wearherd was the same way at first.

Yea I don't think a 6-3 guy who projects at CB with offers from LSU, Auburn, ND, etc is a backup plan. Take him, Osborne, and Knott and let's begin DBU.

Several of these guys seem like they are neck-and-neck, as far as recruiting priority goes. It may be a matter of who pulls the trigger first.

That shouldn't bother him. he's a CB, right? Short memory. Whether he goes to LSU or UT, he has some serious competition to go against.

LSU has more talent at CB than we do, probably.

I see a good athlete, but he will have to really work hard to become a next level corner. On his hudl film it says 4.8 40. I can tell from the film he's faster than that, but he's not UT CB fast, right now. But he is 6'2 long and athletic.

As I said, I'd love to have him at UT. And NO.. he should not be a backup plan to anyone.

All I have to say is he is smart enough to take our opinions seriously. They are just opinions. I think he would be a great player here and I'm thankful for all of these guys that commit and play for the Big Orange.

Weird, I was just wondering about this kid. I think the coaches have slow played Recruiting overall this cycle with the numbers crunch.

I really hope we land this kid. Good athlete and need to continue landing top kids from Memphis.

Volinmem, what's the latest... Are our Vols going to push for a commitment soon?

I think Nigel Knott is higher on our board. But, Vaughn would be a great backup plan.

I would rather go after the in state talent. Plus I like that he is a bigger CB that won't get manhandled by WRs. Rivals has him listed as a safety. And I'm guessing he will need to get that 40 time down to play CB in the SEC. Also with 21 openings currently, why not go after both?

He is getting ready to start taking official visits to Tennessee, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame. I'm not sure at this moment which order the visits will occur, or the dates. When I find out, I will post them here.

Will he enroll in Janurary? If not, do you expect him to announce on signing day?

I don't think he will be an EE. As of now, he hasn't determined when he will announce. Obviously, the OV's will play a big role in his decision. I still like our chances here.

Thanks for the scoop. I look forward to you bringing us some good news sometime between now and signing day

With only taking 18 I really wasn't seeing it with this kid. With us potentially taking 21? I don't know, maybe.

I don't buy the take him cause he's "instate" sentiment.

Nigel Knott is an elite Bauce. Would be thrilled with him.

If we get:
Nigel Warrior
JoeJuan Williams
Nigel Knott
Marquill Osborne

Do we take another DB that most likely ends up at S? This assumes we take 21.

Oh, and watch for Notre Dame here.

I also think the Vols should take Vaughn: I thought we were in the thick of things with Knott but since the opening he has not talked much about Vols and has mentioned the instate schools, were they had not been a focal point at all before the opening, imho it will be awfuly tough to get him out of state or bama:-
