"I just want to take it slow right now, make sure I make the right decision," Johnson said. "I really feel like I need to sleep on a decision. "I don't want to make just a split-second decision about that. I want to think about it."
"We came in and they took a bunch a pictures of us and interviewed us," Johnson said. "It was fun. I played ping pong and did ok. I played corn hole and my dad beat me at that. "I really got a chance to hang out with some of the other recruits and some of the players," he added. "I had a good time."
Tennessee's 'Orange Carpet' events were far from the ordinary on the recruiting trail, with minimal football talk involved, which Johnson added he "got out of the way" while camping with Tennessee. "Actually, I haven't had a school actually have a day like this," Johnson said. "This is pretty unique to Tennessee. This is pretty cool. "I don't think I've ever been somewhere where they had this kind of day." And it could be a big factor going forward. "Definitely," he said. "The more time you spend at a school, no matter where it is, the more you build relationships with the coaches and the players."
Johnson is teammates with fellow 2016 offensive tackle Bryce Mathews at Brentwood Academy, and said the idea of the two playing together at the next level could be realistic. "It's a huge possibility for us," Johnson said. "We both realize there's only two tackle spots at a school, and sometimes that doesn't always work out. "But us being such great friends, that would be a huge, huge thing for us."
