I've had professors that recommend certain areas on wikipedia. I believe some areas lack credibility, and I can't remember how it was phrased to me. Anyhow, I had many classes that had no problem with referencing Wiki.
If you know what you're doing, you can easily use Wikipedia to your advantage without your professor ever knowing. You wouldn't have to cite it, there would be absolutely no need to mention it. It's not cheating, it's not dirty, it's a smart way to find information without needing to read excessively long documents and very easily find the firsthand sources to cite in your research.
I have been dying to get this link on the basketball forum. Now, it is the second cartoon in the list, but I just know that this guy actual goes by several names on here. Maybe this is not the perfect place for this, but anyway here is the link.

The stereotype surrounding Wikipedia's credibility has expired. The information is much more credible now than it was 8-10 years ago.
