It is the premier state school. I don't know how anybody could seriously argue any differently. That is true both academically and sports. Same is true for Michigan, Ohio State, etc. I know the A&M fans may disagree, but they are just wrong on the subject. I don't have a dog in the fight either way (I am a Vol fan), but I know which school is the premier school and so does everyone else. You are just kidding yourself if you think differently.

Right now the Longhorns are ranked 5th in Texas recruiting behind
Baylor
Texas A&M
TCU
Houston

That's not the question tho. Premier programs are the flagship school of their state...that's the Longhorns in a nutshell.

Nobody used an analogy. And what football program in the state of Tennessee is better than UT?

Texas is still the premier school in that state just like UT is here. Stadium size, athletic budget, tradition. Every school goes thru bad hires and Texas hiring Strong is in line with UT hiring Dooley.

Tennessee is no different from where Texas is now as far as a premier program is concerned and we are just plain lucky that Strong is not our coach right now.
We still have not the SEC in 17 years. Texas had a NC in 2005.

A couple of good recruiting classes and Texas has the ability to dominate their conference just as we hope to in 2016.

We are the premier UT...that's been pretty much set since the Alamo.
Just returned from a trip to Dallas.I had to square up a Texan going thru Dfw on the way in.He said hey that's the wrong shade of orange to be wearing down here.My response "If it wasn't for the state this color of orange represents and about 30000 of its inhabitants you wouldnt even have a state to wear that ugly burnt orange in."My wife about killed me.

Whoa whoa whoa... Charlie Strong may not ultimately be successful at ut-a but Strong and Dooley aren't even on the same stratosphere of suckitude.

I knew someone would state what you stated, but as others have pointed out, that does not make those programs the premier program in Texas. That title hands down belongs to Texas. I will take Texas sports history over all the other Texas programs combined, and I will also take a degree from Texas over any of those programs you listed. Same is true for Michigan. Texas will be back on top in short order. It is baffling that they got themselves into the shape they are in now.

The University of Texas has a very fine medical school too, and law school, etc. Baylor is a very good school. I am not knocking them. But Texas is the premier school in Texas. I did not go to Texas or any other school in Texas by the way.

always thought Baylor and TCU were in class all their own academically? Texas and AM are good in post graduate-doctoral work...thats about all I know. im basing this off having family and friends who went to TCU and Rice, respectively.

Sports wise we all know who is top dog in Texas.

Rice is thought of as a great school academically for liberal arts, but it is a small school and lots of folks have never even heard of it. I am sure all the schools having bragging rights on certain degree programs, but if you asked folks around here in Texas in general what the premier school is they would say Texas unless they are just biased toward their school. It is a big deal for a high school kid to even get in Texas.

I live in Tejas, have that fight frequently....
Right now I am @300,000 victories, 0 losses.
Those cow college fans wilt quickly against a determined Volunteer.

There's been talk of erecting a statue to honor these intrepid Volunteers living amonst the Vacas of the Universidad del Norte Mexico (as the university of texas longhorns would be called without us) :)

The texas orange appears to be a beautiful shade of orange suffused with manure...unfortunate choice of mascot:)

Had one of their alumni try to explain it: they mix the football color pigment with orange to get the football teams color. Basketball the same way.
He looked confused when I asked how they derived the jersey colors for baseball, golf, track, volleyball and swimming. It is never ever a fair fight for a longhorn when matching wits against a Volunteer :)

My wife was so embarrassed. But later told me she was proud of me for not blowing my cool and knowing my history. :)

Proud of you too!
Always represent the Vols when traveling.

Cracks my kids up with how often I get a Go Vols or Go Big Orange when traveling.
