'17 Class discussion (split)

Just a reminder for those jumping off cliffs - Definition of a Three-star prospect. "These are the players who will develop into reliable starters for the college teams. They are among the best players in their region of the country, and are generally among the top 750 players in the nation."

We will have a few 5 stars in this class by or on NSD. Other thing to remember is now Butch and Co. are able to develop and red shirt recruits which he wasn't able to before. Things are looking very bright again in Big Orange Country and I am glad the Vols are relevant again. GO VOLS!!

I read a 247 article that said three or four of the recruits we picked up this weekend will most likely be four star recruits by the end of the recruiting cycle

Ill guarantee that you and the other couple guys heckling me that you're in the minority. This is life for us(Tennessee fans) and it impacts life DAILY. Please if you are not serious go somewhere else with your games.

I see you haven't been to that psychologist yet.

I think it's time volnation comes together for an intervention. This dude might kill himself if we get a few more three stars.

So you're saying Butch should accept another three star commitment?

I don't really care what the star rating is. They have proven in the last three years they can evaluate talent. How many time have we given offers to guys nobody has heard of and next thing you know the blow up.

Dooley would sign a four star but we would be the only SEC offer. We are signing 3 stars with multiple SEC offers. I trust the best conference in the country more than I do guys who rate players that come to their camps higher.

I have utmost confidence that Butch and co. is more competent at the whole process of recruiting than any single poster on VN. Considering his career is on the line and all of us are just fan boys, just solidifies this "radical" idea.

Also, we are not OSU or Bama right now and we are not going to recruit like them. At least not until we start performing like them.

I think Nationdom and company could find a way to complain about threesome with Jennifer Lawrence and 90's Jennifer Aniston.

Congrats to the commits. Keep grinding and prove these fools wrong.

A terrible day for UT football. We just loaded up the class with a bunch of 3 star players. I am really disappointed with Butch and the staff. Don't know what they are thinking.

Is this sarcasm or not? I hope so. The best way to get a feel for potential regarding a prospect is to pay attention the the players offer lists. The commitments from this past weekend have really good offer lists. Unless you are taking the time to personally go scout each player, I would trust the process the coaches use for evaluating and recruiting talent. No top football school is going to waste the time to offer a kid a scholarship if they feel they can't play at a high level. The fine folks at Rivals are no better talent evaluating specialists then you or I.

Will some of the commits eventually be recruited over? Sure, yes! Does this mean that the current group of commits aren't quality prospects? NO! HELL NO! They wouldn't have been offered in the first place...........

So, potentially half of what happened this weekend may be upgraded to 4 stars? So, the sky isn't falling after all?

Look at the offer lists on those "3 star" guys. It's telling.

Not really. Are all those offers valid and or committable? Who knows. We do know for a fact ALOT of the Tennessee offers given are not. Butch took them at least for now. Should be good enough.

They keep bringing that up but use hyperbole to still make a case that they're horrible.
They talk about all 8 guys but only use the offer list from the bottom 2.
In other words, they know they are having to spin but do it anyway.
It's common to try and get an advantage in a debate even when you know that you are basically lying or intentionally misleading. Common but sad.

Currently ranked 7th on 24/7 Sports. There will be changes between now and February.

Yeah its June. Beating the drum that we are in the top 10 or being upset that the recent number of commits are not 4 and 5* guys just doesn't mean much right now. There are a lot of uncommitted players across the nation. There are several that are committed that will not sign with that school, I expect UT has a few that will get recruited over or change their mind and other schools will jump when they get commits as well.

Having said all of that. If UT has the season it is capable of (or expected) there is no reason they should be outside the top 10 and should be around the top 5 somewhere.

We could make that happen...

Post is filled with truth.
We can gain an idea from current commits but so much still to come.

And by the way, this potential championship team, consists of over 20 3 stars in the 2 deep. Hell, we couldn't field a good guy's night out with what would be left if those horrible 3 stars were removed.

The following current verbal commitments for the Vols, who are 3 stars, will be upgraded to 4 stars by the end of the fall:

Crosby
Bembry
Lawson
Labruzza
Henderson
Jackson

That makes 6 that will be 4 stars, in addition to the other (2) 4 stars already committed.

I say Butch will end up with at least (1) 5 star and up to (11-12) 4 stars.

It's really early people. Fall camp hasn't even began for high schools yet. Chill

Most tend to overestimate how many will get bumps. I'm sure a few will get updraded and some will be higher 3 stars.

Yeah, one or two at most will get bumps. Seems like Rivals and 247 always make it sound like we have 4-5 guys who are going to get bumped any day, but then only a couple actually do.

I see that on here a lot as well. Lucky for me I'm cool with 3* talent and coaching them up. Top 15 classes. It can work.

Yeah, I don't even pay that much attention to stars.
As I have pointed out before, amazing how all of our previous championships came about before ESPN hired bloggers to tell us who can play.
It's almost like every teams professionained trained scouts do a better job.
I would even suggest that ranking sites adjust their stars after a commit receives offers from people that actually have a clue.
