'17 Class discussion (split)

Regardless of what anyone else says, signing fourteen 3* is ridiculous for a program on the upswing like Tennessee. Butch has got to stop recruiting over players. He just accepts anyone and everyone to commit and then leaves us in a predicament come December and January.

This is the year that we have been waiting on for a long time. We are projected to win the East, our team is highly experienced, and there is a lot of top tier in-state talent. I will tell you what..no top prospect is going to get excited about fourteen 3* players. On top of that, what are we going to do once we start winning and a lot of 4 and 5* players give us a closer look. Yes, we will tell them we will make room. But ultimately, some players will not be as highly recruited by fans or will feel as wanted when there is perceived limited space.

Yesterday was a huge mistake. Hopefully 8-10 of those guys over perform and turn into 4*s by signing day.

LOL! Hope I can remember this post come signing day so I can flip back to it and laugh

His opinion which he has a right to share. Not everyone will agree with CBJ strategy.

I would like to think....would bama except all those low 3* commits? I can understand a hand full but goodness even S.Car and Ms St has 10+ 3*s.

What you are missing is that Butch has done this every year, and it's turned out just fine. The guys we sign turn out pretty good, and some guys get recruited over. Why are people flipping out?

Because it's not right. Tennessee is an elite program and shouldn't ever have to put its fans through the crap we saw yesterday. The thing that startles me the most is how many Tennessee "fans" are not just ok with it but jumping with joy. What we witnessed yesterday is something that MSU, TCU, USC, Celebrate, but not us, Not Tennessee. We've got way to much going for us.

Ok smart one. If we are so elite why have we sucked and been the laughing stock of the SEC for 10 years? Besides last year.

I love all the handwringing around here. Anybody who has followed recruiting since Butch came to town knows that 3-5 of the guys we currently have committed won't be a part of this class. If we end up taking 25-28 like many have speculated, that means we'll have 10+ more commits before it's all said and done. A lot of our biggest targets will take their recruitment to the UA or Army All American games or until signing day.

Playing Atlanta in December should created a pretty nice swell of momentum leading up to that time. In the meantime, we have 3-4 commits who are likely to see bumps and 1-2 who are flying under the radar. Those writing off a top ten class are jumping the gun.

Look! It's a bird!? It's a plane!?

No, it's LACK OF PERSPECTIVE MAN!!!

Seriously, if Butch taking a handful of 3* commits is "putting you through" an ordeal, you have serious issues. Like Silver-Linings-Playbook-I-punched-my-mom-because-the-Eagles-lost issues.

I know you really don't believe this. So, just run along.

Uh yea, but it took his last post for you to notice?

Hopefully he has somebody to put a helmet on him before he does.

Ill guarantee that you and the other couple guys heckling me that you're in the minority. This is life for us(Tennessee fans) and it impacts life DAILY. Please if you are not serious go somewhere else with your games.

No, we really aren't. You are just unrealistic and apparently not aware how Butch operates.

It isn't the reputation that you want to have among elite HS programs. It isn't right that we entice players into committing just to push them away come December and January.

I will say though, after sitting on it for a while I am a bit more hopeful than I am than I was yesterday. Hopefully this year will be similar to the class of 2015 where we signed 29 players (Twelve 3* and two 2*) and finished 4th in the nation. If even three to four of those 3* get a bump then we still have a great shot in landing a top 10 class. Not all hope is lost. I over reacted a bit yesterday. Hopefully we are done with project players and gems in the rough and move on to the big guns. As long as we focus on recruiting top talent from here on out, we should be fine.

It is important that we get another big name or two before the season start to attract other top tier talent. Either of Tee Higgins, Deangelo Gibbs, Trey Smith or Justin Smith would be monumental.

Great speech.
There's 7 months left in recruiting and your crying about how we've already lost.
You want to talk about serious?

I am serious. Get some help. You're like 3 steps away from being an orange Harvey Updike.

I love Vol football as much as anybody, but you've gotta have some perspective, man. If you're letting a football team define the daily ups and downs of your life, you're missing out on a lot of what life has to offer and surrendering autonomy over your own happiness.

And that's coming from someone whose family and friends have all agreed has an unhealthy obsession with Vol Football.
