His dad was a force to be reckoned with. Loved to watch him play. Thrilled to have him in Knoxville!

"First, on Bennett, a huge pickup. In talking to some people who saw him this spring, it's a really good pickup. He's put on some good weight but has kept that athleticism and that's why he was really impressive this spring.

As for the Alabama angle, after an early offer back in January from the Tide and visiting around that time, they never really hit it off. I think the Tide were looking at some other guys and Bennett wanted to explore all of his options. Worked out for Tennessee's benefit as he was a wanted man by schools around the country."

Interesting quotes from Bennett about Bama (from earlier):

I haven’t really talked to my dad in depth about that, but you know I have crimson in my blood, because my dad played there and I grew up with that. But as far as me playing college football it’s going to be wherever I’ve been given the best opportunity.”

This is big in several ways. If he felt a bit under appreciated at Bama, he will have a chip on his shoulder. He is obviously very athletic with good genes. It's an in your face move on the recruiting trail.

Butch - making it happen.

Hate to say this and I'm not worried at all about recruiting under Butch Jones, but if Bama gives him a committable offer, he will flip.

He has a commitable offer. He appears to not have been at the top of their board-- or they just didn't do a good job connecting with him-- but he definitely has a commitable offer.

Huh? If he's down their board, that points to the offer being NOT committable, at least for now.

I'd honestly never really heard of the name. Being 22 he was out of college well before I was born. I have tons of bammer friends and had never heard of the name.

I was just saying looking up his dad I wasn't expecting a 70 sack NFL career and that's what I found

Yeah he was part of probably the best non-super bowl winning team those bills teams had a ton of talent

I saw Bennett at their (high school) spring game and he’s really bulked up and added some weight. That was part of the reason why he bumped up in the rankings. He’s always had the agility and been a pretty agile guy for an interior defensive line. But he put on some muscle and he looks a lot better than he did a year ago and he’s retained his quickness.

"He had a massive spring game, he was all over the field. He was probably the most active player in that game. And while that’s a spring game, when it’s a school like St. Thomas Aquinas that’s just loaded with college talent it’s impressive to hear your name called that often.

"He’s still not the biggest defensive tackle but he’s going to get a little bigger. I think he’s on the right trajectory to bulking up to be able stop the run. His size has always held him back from being able to really excel at that.

"Now that he’s adding size I think he’s turning into a guy that would be a nice piece for any SEC team, certainly Tennessee. He may not be a guy that comes in and contributes from day one but I think he’ll be able to contribute quickly in his career once he gets into a college strength program and gets used to the system.

I don't think he does. He may have an offer, but if he told them he wanted to commit right now, I would venture to guess they would put him on hold. He said himself that crimson runs in his blood...that told me all I needed to know...if they tell him he's a take, I'm guessing he will flip.

It's a possibility. Just have to hope he remembers UT wanted him and bama slow played him. Dads obviously a factor as well. Dad says honor that commitment, he may.
