'17 FL OLB Shanon Reid (UT Committ 12/7/2016)

Linebacker Shanon Reid (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar) verbally committed to Tennessee on Wednesday.

"It's a wonderful opportunity education wise," Reid said. "They have great resources at Tennessee and have my major, sports management."

Reid, who held 30 verbal offers, said he chose the Volunteers over Iowa State, which finished second.
He will enroll early at Tennessee in January.

"The position is set up well for me because they only have one other guy at that spot, and he's out for the spring, so I have a great chance at early playing time," Reid said. "Tennessee has a great climate and the atmosphere is beautiful. I'll be with some players I know like Tyler Byrd."

As a senior, Reid (6-1+, 210) racked up 117 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and two sacks.

As a junior, Reid racked up 95 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and four interceptions.

"Tennessee is getting a first team freshman All-American," Reid said. "I'm going to help them win championships in my first year. We are going show people that Alabama isn't the only place that sends people to the NFL."

The three-star recruit is ranked as the nation's No. 38 outside linebacker and the No. 81 prospect in Florida in the 2017 class by 247SportsComposite.

However, he's regarded as a four-star prospect by 247Sports, higher than anyone else in the industry.
He's ranked as the nation's No. 16 outside linebacker and the No. 31 prospect in Florida in the 2017 class by 247Sports.

"They really stuck by me through the entire process," Reid said. "Even when things got crazy. They showed me love. Even when I didn't make it up for their camp they stayed on me to get me to campus for an official, and that's when I knew it was a great place. "They were there from the beginning and it felt like being a part of a family."

"All of the coaches really made an impact on me," Reid said. "I like coach (Tommy) Thigpen, coach (Larry) Scott and coach (Butch) Jones. They really worked me hard. They were always hitting me up. They are pushing my education. They told me it's second to none, and when I visited I saw that."

"I feel like I attack every play," Reid said. "I get to the football. I play sideline to sideline. I know I have to continue to improve the little things. I want to get bigger and stronger. Just the mental side helps set you a part as a player. That's where I want to improve day by day. "They want me at outside linebacker. They think I have a great chance to make an early impact."

And now it's on to Rocky Top next month where Reid will get a jump start on his football future and the college experience. He said he will be wearing No. 21 as he begins his Tennessee career. "I'm excited to get to Tennessee," Reid said. "It's going to be a whole new experience. It will be an adjustment to go from high school to college that fast. My time to shine is finally here and I can't wait."

Is this guy a game changer? I didn't find him in the ESPN 300 or Rivals 250. What's his story? Was he injured his senior year?

He's in the 24/7 Top 247 (#227). Good player. Pretty solid offer list. Dream school was LSU but they slow-played him and being an EE, he looked elsewhere. Some will be upset that we took the backseat to LSU, but we should be very excited about this kid. Smaller in size, but an athletic LB.

Jalen Meeves Raybin's replacement im assuming? Fits the mold and is wearing #21 also.

Will play similar. Not near as violent as JRM was, but can play sideline to sideline with great speed.

Edit: this isn't meant as a negative, he flies to the football.. just aren't many in the mold of JRM
